This is a beautifully written play that reveals the desire for community between two people who lead very different lives. A woman who is grieving meets a young, high-functioning autist man on his first day at his retail job. What first seems to be discomfort blooms into a healing friendship. Sensitively written.

I live in NJ, and in many ways this is a Jersey play. However, it is also a universal play. It taps into the whole 'reality show' vibe and the desperation of small business owners to maintain success.
Really fleshed-out characters and an interesting story. I can see the entire play take place in my mind's eye. Fast-paced and fun. I would love to see this play on stage because of the energy, the people and the movement of the story.
  • A Is For American
    26 Jun. 2021
Monologues are hot right now, and when I read good ones like this, I understand why. They're not easy to write, but when they're successful, they pack a punch. A is for American alludes to the country's bigoted history but does so in a way that pulls people together. The bits about Hawaii are hilarious.

Lucy Wang is so incredibly funny here. The connections seem random, but they're not. This, like many of her other plays/monologues, revolves around language and the deeper meanings behind the words we take for granted

A very touching short play about theater, people who love theater, and the pandemic. Lights are going out... but some people are still holding on.
    I was really touched.

This is a fantastic play for teens and college students. The characters are likable, and I couldn't help rooting for the 'ghosts' as well. It's so interesting and appropriate for our time. I hope to read this with my community college students and discuss the play's universe to prompt a literary analysis.

An interesting and funny short play about American life.
  • Looking for the Pony
    18 May. 2020
Looking for the Pony is a poignant, tragic, and funny play about two sisters, one who is fighting cancer and the other who is fighting cancer with her. It’s a beautifully written story told visually: I could see the play performed in my mind’s eye as I read it. It’s cathartic and healing, not oversentimental. The play is about life rather than death.

This is an incredibly compelling, interesting play that asks a lot of questions. Some people look to theater for answers... this play offers few answers but highlights questions about desire and ethics in high school classrooms. It also visits the issue of power structures in the workplace and sexual attraction. After reading it the first time, I was angry at Ken for his manipulation and his abuse of his the power of his office; but after reading it the second time, I began to believe that the characters' shifting gender identities tell another story.
  • ELEVATOR GIRL
    27 Oct. 2019
Elevator Girl is a sharp, engaging play that moves quickly... but is pithy in terms of reflecting just how some people in our culture take honest expressions and turn them into business ventures. I love it and would love to see a production of it.
The characters are real and multi-dimensional, and the story rings true.
