  • Lainie Vansant: The Wasn't Supposed to Girls

This play is tight and poetic. Hageman excites the imagination in such a way that this could be produced with gorgeous projections and smoke machines or with just actors and their bodies and either way it would be stunning. The stakes are high, and women are helping women - read it!

  • Lainie Vansant: Hey Joe, What Do You Know

A lot of religious pieces try to give their audiences all the answers - this little monologue does just the opposite. Like most of us when it comes to faith, it asks more questions than it answers, which makes for compelling, actable theater that is sure to connect with and challenge its audience.

  • Lainie Vansant: Bed Play; The Elements of Intimacy

This play is full of sweet, natural scenes that embrace the odd messiness of real people's lives. Carter has a gift for dialogue that flows naturally, and she builds characters that you'll grow to care about despite all their flaws. This play is fearless and a treat to read.

  • Lainie Vansant: El Yunque in English

A brilliantly crafted nugget of a play/monologue. Diaz-Marcano uses a wide range of linguistic tools to draw us into a situation that is contextualized by a specific and important moment, but also heart-wrenchingly universal. A great example of a clean ten minute play!

  • Lainie Vansant: Annie Jump and the Library of Heaven

Reina Hardy is quickly becoming one of my favorite playwrights. This play is both intimate and epic - an outer-space adventure with lots of spunk and a charming voice. I remember through Annie's story what it's like to be a teenager - a little bit afraid of your own wild dreams - and I wish more girls had an Althea to push them toward those dreams. Also, a massive space-library would still be awesome. Read it, produce it, then tell me so I can come watch it.

  • Lainie Vansant: Women's Ten Minute Play Selection Committee

Killed it. The clever twists and turns in this scathing little play had me laughing out loud. The balance of absurdity and reality (we see you, Neil Labute) mixed with Hageman's naturally quirky comedy keeps the audience invested, and when you remember at the end that all the characters are played by women, it's just that much better. Enjoy.

  • Lainie Vansant: Fairy Tale Career Aptitude Test

Adorable and hilarious. If you want a clever script for a huge cast about making your way and following your own dreams, this one is for you!

  • Lainie Vansant: The Journey of the Bell

Lee does a great job tying together several different stories with a plot that is relevant to her young audience. This show is light-hearted, fun, and flexible, building on Hans Christian Anderson's tales and making them fun for today's audience (I still can't get over Darth Vader and "Fantasy China"). Loved it!

  • Lainie Vansant: The Boy Who Cried Dragon

A sweet play full of magic, with some character-driven humor that winks at the adults now and then. Lovely.

  • Lainie Vansant: Quiz Out

Connolly writes with incredible love both for her queer protagonists and for the odd religious world they come from. It's beautiful to see these two worlds come together, balanced well by the light world of the Bible Quiz Bowl (which is, of course) very high-stakes for some of us...). A well-balanced dramedy that brought a tear to my eye.
