  • Michael Weems: POP! Goes the Bubble - a New Musical

A heart filled solo musical that's entirely endearing, fun, and sweetly self-aware. 'Me' is a standout song that's filled with heart and brings to mind 'No One Else' (Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812) in that both utilize a simple, beautiful motif to such striking effect.

  • Michael Weems: The Cages We Build

A heartbreaking and honest work that explores how we protect ourselves and can develop the ability to listen. Emily has a tremendous skill in concise, minimalist, well written dialogue that moves naturally. Her Dean is a sensitive, accurate portrayal of a kid who's never had support or a friend. Getting to see his decline, his bittersweet relationship with Lucy, and then the final fall into reality is a tremendous accomplishment for a short one act. A very pertinent play for our world today.

  • Michael Weems: Wayne LaPierre Takes a Bean Bag to the Nuts

Bryan's penned a very relevant, absurdist piece that's linked to the US's current political climate. However, he deftly chooses irony and humor to portray the agent's trek to assassinate a NRA executive. The end result is a dark, humorous slant on gun violence (or bean bags in this case).

  • Michael Weems: Where's Julie?

'Where's Julie?" lives in a world that is equal parts melodramatic, experimental, and grounded - a combination that functions perfectly as the show progresses. Audiences have connected warmly to Jeff (who brought me to tears), Mom (an at first seemingly 50s housewife who we learn is at the end of her rope), Julie's friend the incredibly unhinged and hilariously pious Margaret, and the sweetly pot headed Hector. In fact, Julie's problems seem increasingly every day as we progress further into this world. We we were very fortunate to be able to share this in Houston. - Michael Weems
