Prudence Wright Holmes is the author of Voices of Thinking Jewish Women (Biblio Press), The Voice and Speech Workout (Drama Book Publishers), Monologue Mastery (Applause Books) and the plays Beat Chick ,Call Me William, Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker, Duncan and Vanessa, Sister Girl, Wannabes and Bexley, OH! which she performed at New York Theatre Workshop.
As an actor, she appeared in the films Sister Act I and II with Whoopi Goldberg, Kingpin with Woody Harrelson, In Dreams with Annette Bening, My Own Love Song with Renee Zellweger, Boardwalk Empire with Steve Buscemi, God’s Pocket with Philip Seymour Hoffman and After.Life with Liam Neeson. She also appeared on Broadway in Happy End with Meryl Streep, Lettice and Lovage with Maggie Smith, Inherit the Wind with George C. Scott and The Light in the Piazza. In addition, she has performed in numerous off Broadway and regional theatre productions as well as many soap operas and commercials.

    Her mother, Marjorie, was a society matron obsessed with getting into the right clubs. Her world was thrown into chaos when some of her lady friends staged a coup and threw the president of the African Violet Society out on her fanny. Marjorie then had greatness thrust upon her when she was asked to assume the mantle of interim President of the Society. It was a heavy burden. All this is in counterpoint to her maid, who was becoming a Civil Rights activist, which was something Marjorie hoped would just go away.

    Bexley, OH! is the memoir of a girl described by a classmate as “The original Goth” growing up in and out of the epicenter of Nixon territory, Bexley, Ohio. It is juxtaposed with the Dr. Sam Sheppard murder case and its effect on her father and their stormy and violent relationship.

    Her father was former Navy commander turned insurance executive whose favorite person in the world next to Jesus Christ was Richard Nixon. He always said regarding Watergate, “the President was framed.” He often warned that the Pope had plans to take over the world just like Nikita Khrushchev. In fact, he suspected they were in collusion, trying to destroy thier way of life. When JKF, a man he called “The Pope’s puppet” was elected, he wore a black armband and warned “soon enough, we’ll all be a bunch of mackerel snappers”- meaning no more of his beloved T-bone steaks on Fridays.
    The daughter, described by the NY Times as "a born subversive" challenged everything her father held dear with disastrous results. They became mortal enemies. It was only after his death, she learned of another side of him that partially redeemed him in her eyes and helped her resolve their turbulent relationship.
