Janet Lowery has published poetry and written four plays, including her recent drama A Heroin Free Summer, produced in Houston, Texas by Mildred's Umbrella Theatre Company under the name A Heroine Free Summer. The play calls attention to the current opioid/heroin epidemic through the experiences of one family in upstate New York. Her three earlier plays, produced in 2006, 2007, 2008 at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, The Traffic in Women trilogy, called attention to the issue of human trafficking, especially given that Houston is a hub for human trafficking. The trilogy is populated with women from classical mythology, in part because the first female literary characters who experience this type of bondage are the Trojan women.

She tries to bring into the boys' awareness...
