Laura J. Axelrod is a playwright, journalist, and author whose work is driven by themes of women's rights, societal expectations, and historical sagas.

Her playwriting has been performed at the Edinburg Fringe Festival, and in various venues across New York and San Francisco. She is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild and The Authors Guild.

A graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts (BFA, MFA in Dramatic Writing), Laura was honored with the John L. Golden Award for Playwright with Most Potential and the Rod Marriott Senior Playwriting Award.

As a journalist, her essays and book reviews on arts and politics have appeared in publications such as The Birmingham News and The Seattle Times. Her early work as a theater blogger was cited by Megan Vaughan in the book, Theatre Blogging: The Emergence of a Critical Culture, as a leading voice in the field. She also serves as Associate Curator and Contributor at The Clyde Fitch Report, and is a member of the National Book Critics Circle (NBCC).

Laura also wrote, directed, and acted in the documentary film, “Becoming Colonel Cullmann,” which screened at Birmingham’s Sidewalk Film Festival. She pursues her love of Mid-Century Modern art, design, and architecture when not immersed in historical archives or crafting stories.
