  • Paul Smith: Urashima Taro

This is a stunning piece of work. I have little doubt that Japanese folklore is full of stories such as this, but this example is full of intrigue and fascination. Morey Norkin has crafted a beautiful short play - and maybe there is a longer version waiting to be written - but here it is perfect. The play conjours up pictures in your head of how this could work on stage and it offers great riches to anyone who might decide to mount a production. Beautiful, engaging and moving writing.

  • Paul Smith: Voyage To Nowhere

Jaxson Mackling creates a scene full of tension with stilted, uncomfortable dialogue; there is a very deep connection between Tate and Sienna and this is made very clear - all of which is achieved in such a short piece. Really smart writing.

  • Paul Smith: AVALON WAVES

This is a wonderful duologue and I just can't read it without hearing cut-glass accents - I am sure Coward would approve - what fun it would be to deliver these barbed and spiky lines. Huge fun!

  • Paul Smith: Citizen Detective

This is a super monologue which I can only imagine an actor would absolutely love to perform. Huge fun and, I am fairly sure, not unrealistic. You can feel the passion and enthusiasm in Debra A Cole's writing as the words just fly off the page from this would-be detective. Highly recommended. Love it!

  • Paul Smith: Our Santa

This is a lovely piece; Jaxson Mackling is so clever in the depiction of the young boy - it's so honest and so true and so realistic. A clever, moving piece of writing which demonstrates just how children's words and actions are so much to be admired!

  • Paul Smith: The Companion (ten minutes)

Goodness me, this is an excellent piece of writing. With few words and a well paced timeframe, this story of a connection between a human and a robot garners emotions of all kinds. Matthew Libby writes in a lucid, deeply sensitive way and has produced a beautifully structured piece of theatre.

  • Paul Smith: The Studio Cut (a monologue)

This is a corker - all in the space of 1 minute. The worrying thing about it is that you can just hear a studio executive (or similar) making such ludicrous decisions. Art (in every form) bows to the commercial world in some way or another - and what can the artist do about it? Discuss - and it can be quite a discussion! Scott Sickles perfectly sums up the dichotomy!

  • Paul Smith: The Most Awkward Garter Toss in History

Cracking little piece - some wedding traditions just aren't as thrilling to be a part of as some and Cole Hunter Dzubak's keen eye has spotted one such tradition and developed a really funny situation. Fairly excruciating it certainly is in this instance and the writer pulls it off (so to speak) with aplomb!

  • Paul Smith: Outer Space Face-to-Face Contact

This short little fun piece by Cole Hunter Dzubak offers a really amusing view on a number of things; meetings - are they worthwhile? The use of the names of darker characters from mythology becomes increasingly funny as they hunt for alternatives. Who would chair a meeting eh? Great fun and full of imaginative thoughts and ideas!

  • Paul Smith: A Ruby in a Sky of Diamonds

A tender, beautifully crafted and haunting piece of writing that is pitch perfect from Christopher Plumridge. A fantasy which is, maybe, shared by all of us but here comes to you like a bolt from the night sky - it works an absolute treat and causes a sudden and surprising surge in emotions. Clever and insightful writing - a really fine piece of work.
