There is a reason why this is one of the most reviewed plays on NPX. It is THAT good. It is funny, it is sharp, it is powerful, it is real, and it makes me ache and empathize so deeply I can hardly sit still. You genuinely LOVE these characters--and it only takes Craig-Galván a page to get you to love them. They are so deeply real. This play really makes you think. Behind hashtags and movements are just people--sometimes they are remarkable brave beacons, but at the end of the day, they are just people. Highly recommended.
  • Bloodstained Marigolds on a Perverse Landscape

As usual, Stubbles has created something that is many things at once. It is super creepy, it is super disturbing, it is probably very (delightfully) gross when it it staged, but it is also fully tongue-in-cheek and funny in an "eeew!" and a "whaaaat?" kind of way. Stubbles is one the most unique voices out there and his plays are always bound to entertain. Seeing this one staged--and watching the audience chuckle nervously and cringe and groan in displeasure and disgust--would be a performance in and of itself.
  • Almost Mary

An incredibly beautiful play that would be a gem for a middle school cast. Haas, as always, has the most magical gift for writing for young actors in a way that is meaningful and challenging. The story is a gorgeous one--and an educational one--and how wonderful is it that it is about a young woman who puts value into being hard-working and smart. With plenty of roles for young men and young women, Almost Mary is a beautifully layered play with plenty of powerful motifs and themes that will stir the hearts of the young actors and the audience.
  • Branwell (and the other Brontes): an autobiography edited by Charlotte Bronte

An absolutely stunning play full of fantastic roles, including many roles for women. I can only imagine how powerful this show is staged. Each line of Kaplan's dialogue is ripe with character and wit and charm. These are the kind of meaty roles that actors would love to dig into--and the story itself is tremendously unique, heartbreaking, and rings so true. But there is such a brilliance and light about the play--and perhaps that is because it is a story first and a theatrical experience second, which is probably how the Brontes would have wanted it. Highly recommended.
  • Working for Crumbs - A Dead Body Farce

This play is an absolute hilarious delight. First of all, it is an INCREDIBLY funny script with tons of physical and verbal humor and it is a FANTASTIC script for FUNNY WOMEN. Got great comedic actresses? Get your hands on this play RIGHT NOW and be prepared to have an absolute crowd pleaser. This is a modern "Arsenic and Old Lace." Danley does farce right and the result is absolute pleasure and delight. I didn't stop smiling once throughout reading this entire script. Read it NOW, HIGHLY recommended.
  • I Left My Dignity in My Other Purse
    29 Apr. 2018
A delightfully funny play about a woman in a unique part of her life. Ruth is absolutely hilarious, and Marge and Maya just don't stop with the witty banter. The meta choice on Chester's part to make Ruth be the only one who can recognize that one actor plays several parts is hilarious. Nothing but sheer pleasure and wickedly funny dialogue, three comedic actresses could really make this play cook!

Courageous doesn't even seem like a big enough word to describe what this play is. This play is brilliance and fearlessness and it is hideous and it is hard to read and it is impossible to imagine, but it is so, so beautiful and so needed and will change lives. The story in and of itself is one that will break you down into a thousand pieces and make you wonder how, how, how could things like this exist, but Emma will win you over. She is more than brave, she is a beacon. Highly recommended.

Oh, wow. Oh, wow. I have just read the most marvelous thing and it is Reykjavik by Steve Yockey. This play is about as close to perfection as you get. I could talk about the gorgeous dialogue, the unique characters, the fascinating lay out, the opportunities for technical wizardry, but all I want to talk about is the sheer perfection of the story. A story--or a group of stories--that weave in and out of each other with such an effortless quality. This play is a masterpiece with one of the most intentional stories I've ever read. Highly, highly recommended.
  • Melto Man and Lady Mantis

A fantastically funny play with an absolutely delightful premise. Pfeffinger has packed a lot of thought and humor into seven extremely tightly written pages. Both characters are fully fleshed out and funny in their own right and I would love to see what a director and a stage-combat choreographer could cook up for the end. Sure to be the delight of any short play festival--and a great masterclass in saying a lot with very little. Highly recommended!

Funny, sweet, and beautiful, Austgen has created a deeply romantic, humorous, and conscious look at the romantic, tragic novels that some so eagerly consume. Every line is incredibly intentional and the ending is tender and meaningful. A carefully crafted ten minute play that does the form justice and needs to be included soon in a ten minute play festival. Especially fun for a literature buff. Highly recommended!
