  • Scott Sickles: 5 Golden Rings

It's never too early to start planning the wedding, though sometimes it is too early to start TALKING about it, and it really is just harmless speculation - especially when the relationship is so, So, SO new - and who doesn't start thinking of the future when the year is coming to a close and we just spent all this time and money and THOUGHT on presents which are by definition expressions of affection to those we intend to express affection to for a long time, if they stick around, knock wood, so just produce this monologue already!

  • Scott Sickles: INITIATION

Richter cleverly takes classic vampire tropes, done of which seem like they've been around for a thousand years, and intersperses them with defiantly, absurdly, hilariously contemporary responses! The situation escalates at a perfect pace, hitting its narrative targets with great accuracy along the way. Best of all, the play and its characters, Trevor easiest, transcend mere (though masterful) spoofery and evolve to face their fears, disappoinments, and moral flexibility. A fun ride into dark yet deeply funny territory!

  • Scott Sickles: Cassie Strickland Is Not Under the Bed

The problem with being paranoid is no one believes you when someone’s actually out to get you. Fortunately, that same doubt provides tremendous fuel for suspense! Gatton draws us in and keeps us guessing as protagonist Clay is beset by a perfect storm of guilt, PTSD, dread, and terror. The phone call that comprises most of the play is literally a lifeline for him. On the other end, friend Howie’s calm rationality grounds the play in an uncertain reality. Tense, spooky, and psychologically complex, it’ll keep you, like Clay, on the edge of your bed!

  • Scott Sickles: Tooth Or Dare

I can’t say I wasn’t warned. This play… let’s just say there are a few twists by the end.

McClain’s sharp satire skewers the reliance of ratings and branding in the gig economy, the power internet based approval gives children, and the lax parenting that makes that possible. It all happens in the midst of fun premise that grants us several payoffs! Easy and fun to produce, especially for the costume designer!

Indeed, DO NOT piss off this tooth fairy!

  • Scott Sickles: A Lynch Mob Foiled: A Monologue

A deep, dark, powerful look into American racism and white supremacy, made all the more stirring by the sheriff’s calm retelling of the incidents in question. The events described are horrific and suspenseful enough that they require no embellishment. It’s necessary history and Baker tells it with indelible clarity.

  • Scott Sickles: Between the Stacks

If you’ve been looking for an adorable queer/non-binary date night break-in story, look no further! Karuc creates a treasure trove of lovely romantic moments infused with the awkwardness of youth, discovery, and petty larceny. Both characters are fun, complex, and a joy for actors and audiences. Sage, in particular, is a terrific role for any genderqueer or non-binary actor. You’ll feel the blush of new (first?) love right along with them!

  • Scott Sickles: Pee Hot, or The St. Agnes Fiasco

What a glorious cascade of phrases and words, setups and non sequiturs, puns and punchlines, and silliness at the speed of light! I read it aloud with British accents. I strongly recommend you do the same. Stop for nothing! You will have the time of your life.

Corona demonstrates a supernatural gift for comic phrasing and rhythm as he milks a simple situation for all it’s worth! Simple to stage and a gift for actors who excel as fast-paced witty humor. Huzzah!

  • Scott Sickles: ABANDONMENT [A 1-MINUTE MONOLOGUE]

One of the most astonishing depictions of a crisis of faith I’ve ever seen and Martin fits it on half a page! Unrequited love is terrible enough but when the One doing the rebuffing is supposed to be both all-powerful and all-loving, the paradox become untenable. Hugh’s love and anguish are at war and the stakes are as high sad heaven itself. A triumph!

  • Scott Sickles: BAWDY MAUDIE - MONOLOGUE

A deliciously wicked tale from a master monologist, BAWDIE MAUDIE lures in the listener and never lets go. Loading with history, atmosphere, and sharp emotional truths, it's a delight from beginning to end. Then it'll stick with you. As will Maudie!

  • Scott Sickles: Lang

In this exquisitely elegant historical noir that especially appeals to classic and foreign film lovers, Cathro dramatizes a pivotal moment in German director Fritz Lang's life and career, giving it unsettling intimacy.

The dialogue perfectly evokes the characters speaking German, without a single German word or sounding like subtitles. One can't help but picture the play somehow staged in visually stunning black and white.

    Tremendous!
