Leonard Madrid is a New Mexico based theatre artist.

Leonard received an MFA in Dramatic writing from the University of New Mexico. He also has a BA in lighting and set design, and a BFA in Theatre.

Leonard’s plays Tecolotito, Perla, and Aurora have received the Kennedy Center’s Award for Latino Playwrights. Aurora was featured as part of the Ignition Festival at Victory Gardens Theatre in Chicago. Perla was a finalist of the John Cauble short Play competition. Volver Volver Volver was chosen as the ATHE Playworks play of 2008. Other plays have received readings and performances around the nation. His plays Juanito: a Cuento and Dogboy and Boydog each toured around New Mexico schools in front of thousands of New Mexican children and educators.

  • Perla de Luna
    Perla puts her life on hold to care for her father. In her dreams, she meets the daughter she might have had.
  • Ambrosita
    Ambrosita Lucero walks down mainstreet in Portales, NM on her way to figure out a local prophecy about who she will marry.
  • Volver Volver Volver
    Junie Holguin returns home after three days and learns he's been dead for three years. To figure out his death and his life he returns to his mother, his wife, and his daughter.
    This play can be performed by itself or as a companion piece to Ambrosita.
