GREG VOVOS is a playwright, screenwriter, and director, working in the vibrant Cleveland theater scene. He’s a two-time winner of the Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award in Playwriting (Complete and Total; How to be a Respectable Junkie); a 2016 Cleveland Public Theatre Nord Playwriting Fellow (Well Beings); Dobama Theatre Playwrights Gym member; and proud Dramatists Guild member. Greg was resident playwright for the Willoughby Fine Arts Association’s Theatre for Healthy Living Program for whom he’s written 15 plays about issues facing youth today. His work has been seen around the world, translated into several languages, and published by Dramatic Publishing, OriginalWorks, and PPT Press. He’s taught playwriting at several theatres and universities, including UNLV, Baldwin Wallace University, and Case Western Reserve University. He earned his MFA in Playwriting from UNLV where he studied with Julie Jensen. Greg’s married to his best friend and together they have two amazing kids.

    HTBARJ is a one-person show that tells the story of a man who has grown so weary of his heroin usage that he decides he’s going to take his life so he no longer has to destroy the lives of those around him. But before doing so, he’s going to make a youtube-type video instructing other addicts “how to be respectable junkies,” because even he has grown tired of their behavior. As he shares his “lessons” (How to Score, How to Shoot up Like an Adult, etc.) with his viewing audience, we learn the history of his usage and his failed attempts at getting clean. But as he faces his demons and eventually loses the few close people in his life, Brian discovers something in himself that had been buried for a long time…hope. Based on the true story of a man from Northeast Ohio who overcame heroin addiction. 80 minutes. (Note: A 50-minute, abbreviated version is also available!)
