I've been thinking about this play all day as well as telling my friends about it. The way that this play wraps together a coming of age story, a mystery, a ghost story, and a commentary about race is awe inspiring. Every time, I had a handle on where it was going, it switched it up and surprised and delighted me. Similar to Netflix's haunting of hill house, the play deals with spiritual or residual emotion, grief, horror, and love. I want to see this show.

I was lucky enough to see this in performance and wow. I was in a constant grin the entire performance. I felt like it was written for me and about me at the same time. Aside from feeling seen, I felt energized. I cheered. I screamed. This show hits on so many levels, encourages self worth, and reminds us that we all have a rock star within us when we need it.

This mix of Edward Albee and Rod Serling surprised me moment after moment. What begins as a simple request between former friends becomes and night of truth telling (and possible lie telling) and eventual horror. Right after finishing I wanted to read it again, then see it. There are so many tiny nuances in the character choices and motivations that I wanted to go back and see how they add up and what I missed. I enjoyed these people even if I wasnt supposed to. I still have chills from it.

Exciting and haunting all at once. This show teaches that awareness is never enough. Once we are made aware of a situation we must react, and this show reminds us to do so. Coming in to this show, I had certain values regarding respect, consent, and intent and thought that was enough. Sensitive Guys challenges me to not stop there, but to push harder, fight harder, not just nod along. Ultimately this show is teaching me how to be a better man.
  • Dark Twist

This was an exceptional show. I truly enjoyed these smart characters dealing with their pasts in healthy and unhealthy ways. I found myself switching sides with each as they told their stories and excited to see what each next "dark twist" would be. Their baggageand drama is real and relatable and the lengths they go to deal with them hits home. I left hoping Jeff and Richard had closure, as well as the opportunity for a new chapter.

Horror is difficult in theatre because it can easily become camp. The nuances of film don't always lend themself to dialogue driven stories of the stage. Luckily that isn't the case with this incredibly well crafted play. We are given three flawed characters in Sloan, Gwyn, and Beckham. Each is so driven in their personal goals- be it grief, worry, or longing that the rising- possibly supernatural- events go unnoticed. The horror is real, but so is the emotion. As I reached the end, I felt strong sadness for those who didnt survive, and for those who did.

This show hits hard. This response to "Boys In the Band" shines a light on the barriers we sometimes place upon ourselves in the queer community instead of enjoying the multifaceted beings that we are. Upon enjoying this show I found myself understanding each of the characters, even the troubled Mimi, who's lack of understanding and evolution lead the play to its inevitable and horrifying conclusion. It made me question my own judgments, rethink my own actions, and push myself to be a better person in how I respond to members in my own community. Again, this show hits hard.
  • What Happens At Jock Night

This combination on what we portray on the night out vs who we really are, shown in combining jocks, cookies, and popcorn is fantastic. It's very real in its storytelling, which is what makes it very funny. I know these people. Its jump from hillarious to heartfelt, regarding Josh, is a wonderful touch and makes me love the show even more.

I adored this show. I read it a few times. So much fun. Steve is so wonderfly shrewd and Martin's innocence is such a wonderful contrast. I would love to see this on stage.

Not only did I love this play. I felt seen by this play. The journey into his head, the manic pingpong of emotions. I understand Eddie and love Eddie for it. And I love Richard even more for loving him. What a beautiful story, with wonderful characters. Definitely fun for the actors as well. Great job!
