A dark comedy following a husband who has learned that his wife has been involved with another man and responds by hiring a wannabe thug to kill him in front of her—but all does not go according to plan. Flipping stereotypes on their head, and challenging traditional thinking, "Smooth, Smooth Jazz" takes a deeper dive into the iniquitous nature of kindness.
  • Sandcastle
Stranded on a desert Island, a couple decides it is time to break up. An RnB inspired dark comedy that showcases the world of two people left with nothing but each other and their imagination.

This story highlights some of McVay's best qualities as a Playwright: wielding a supernatural style to inform & heighten moments, naturalistic dialogue that showcases characters while contrasting effectively with the environment they're placed in, as well as the infusion of poetic language that demonstrates McVay's range as a writer. A sincere and eerie ten-minute, give this a read to see a Theatre artist exploring a genre we see too little of in Theatre.
