Artistic Statement

“What we don’t understand, we fear. What we fear, we judge as evil. What we judge as evil, we attempt to control. And what we can’t control, we attack.” One phrase to explain my purpose as a playwright. With my works, I want to raise awareness to the unknown by generating insightful discussion amongst world wide issues that we face a society. My works analyze and examine the subject matters of race, political ideals, social class, and gender identity.

While engaging in the world we live in, whether it is socially, politically, or psychologically, it is imperative to have a voice. My writing grants a voice to the ones who aren’t heard that need their story to be told.

Within our world, it is always an challenge to get society to understand and try to accept another’s viewpoint behind a controversial topic. We all carry different life experiences and baggage when going to participate in the theater. The theater provides me the platform to connect the world by my theatrical bridge. Due to everybody’s diverse journeys, it is important to create an inclusive environment and be candid towards another when dealing with these world wide conflicts. Many of society’s problems come from a lack of understanding. People fear what they don’t know or understand. Through trying to understand another’s viewpoint, as a society we will progress regarding the issues of race, political ideals, social class, and gender identity. My work creates the first discussion and gives voice in the process of unity and understanding amongst society.
