  • Asher Wyndham: PLATTSBURGH

Plattsburgh by Greg Hovanesian has a real-vibe to it and an odd assortment of average Joe characters like an early full length by Richard Maxwell. Believable dialog and intense exchanges between strangers (including one at knifepoint) elevate this short full length set in a supermarket (a microcosm of the world itself) to a philosophical level -- raising the question of what it means to be courageous in a shitty world. You get some Hegel with Spicy Diablo mac 'n cheese.

  • Asher Wyndham: Stupid, Fat, Ugly

Osmundsen's play goes where many playwrights fear to go - it's a terrain of the dark, erotic imagination that Dennis Cooper would appreciate. The structure switches back from past to present and parallels past and present also to a disturbing effect, and it's engrossing -- a twisted f'd up tale of a sister playing detective in a city after her brother's mysterious death, a journey that is a descent into her sexual awakening -- and it's sometimes a wicked pleasure (maybe even a turn on) for the reader. Check it out.

  • Asher Wyndham: Room 219: I Remember the Night

Blissfully in love, looking forward to charting their future together, two young women share kisses and heartaching stories on their honeymoon in a shitty hotel room. These women feel so raw and real to me. A poignant dramedy perfect for a LGBTQI festival during Pride month.

  • Asher Wyndham: The Last Bus

An intense, reviting, perfectly punctuated ensemble drama. A believable situation -- parents waiting to hear the fate of their children after a school shooting - that seems like it's someplace foreign, a room in a war zone, but sadly it's not -- it's in the United States of America -- and this probably happens every month in this nation. Who survived? Who's the shooter? Faith and ideologies of parenting clash in this exceptional short play. Perfect for any festival on gun control. Check it out.

  • Asher Wyndham: Cameo Friend

Is authentic friendship and intimacy -- true connectivity -- in the age of the Internet and sex apps possible? Guidroz's play Cameo Friend captures a sad reality for many college and post-college 20 somethings, especially for that average Joe, that no-six-pack guy like Kevin who spends his time videogaming. Kevin will break your heart when his trauma is revealed. A work-in-progress that deserves development with college theatre programs because it speaks to average Joes. I recommend reaching out to Guidroz and workshopping this with him.

  • Asher Wyndham: Ta-Da or Toodle-Oo

After reading this terrific play you'll know why it won big at the Heartland Theatre 10 Minute Play Festival. Flawless, brilliant short play that deserves multiple productions. One of the best comedies I've read on NPX in a long time. A play perfect for kids and adults. It has laughs every page, but it's not all silly. It's got a big heart in what it says about friendship and collaboration. Check it out! Produce it! Hageman is one of the most exciting voices on NPX!

  • Asher Wyndham: The Ferberizing of Coral

This play is hee-larious from start to finish, no dull moment. It's bonkers, but it's got a big heart -- a message for all new parents (I'm not going to say what it is) that needs repeating. The play is also warning for those who are deciding to be parents or not -- yeah, don't do it, not worth it -- all that crying. This is a great play where sound design influences the drama and creates a spectacle that you've never seen before. A director and the two actors will have a lot of fun with this. PRODUCE THIS!

  • Asher Wyndham: So Beautiful

'What else have we not talked about?' Rarely do couples get to this question and answer it, even several years into the relationship/marriage. In this play the biggest decision in life reveal insecurities, secrets, and truths. The play starts off funny and then builds with an intensity that reveals shocking truths about each other and our mixed world still made difficult by racism, hate, and ignorance. Highly recommended for a Queer/LGBTQIA festival or any festival!

  • Asher Wyndham: Better (Short)

The monologues, the rhythm of the dialog, the vulgarity, the viciousness, the nastiness -- all of it impressively creates the two distinct women that seem so REAL, so ALIVE. I would love to see this play! These women are cold, ugly, raw just like the poultry coming down on the line. A perfect representation of working class women in a factory. Perfect. Highly recommended. This play makes me want to check out other plays by Vince Gatton...

The development of the relationship from strangers to friends is remarkable in its 10 pages. Even though it's gradual development, the believable dialog is nuanced in a way that's emotionally effective. A structure that perfectly explores and expresses its themes. A smart choice for women in their 40s. A smart choice for a Queer/LGBTQ festival. Highly recommended.
