  • Izzy Salant: Drain

Hey so this play shows a dark future and I hate that it’s a possibility. Theater is a mode for change and I hate that plays like this have to be written in this time to show horrors of our world. But, they still need to be, and not only does Sickles do it excellently, you have to step back and take a moment because of how captivated you are.

  • Izzy Salant: Confirmation Bias

It's always wonderful to see a playwright effortlessly infuse characters with qualities that make them feel uniquely human. Malakhow does all that in more, where in 10 minutes he masterfully uses subtlety to add suspense, and tell a gripping story, among many other qualities that make this play a joy to read.

  • Izzy Salant: ANNE

In 15 minutes, Eshman creates a brilliant and intricate story that tackles topics in a nuanced and smart way. The pacing and dialogue create a wonderful conversation that showcases a necessary relevance of the way we create theater, and consequences that can happen because of it. Having seen the piece on its feet, the impact it has on its audience is amazing, and truly is a story that needs to be told.

  • Izzy Salant: Quit While You're Behind

I want to convey to anyone reading this how I felt after reading this piece, but as I sit here trying to write a recommendation, I keep deleting it, because I don't want to tell you anything about this piece, I just want you to read it so you can experience it like I did.

I'll leave you with one word to describe it: Beautiful

  • Izzy Salant: Enferma

It's always wonderful to read a play with an original premise and execution, and "Enferma" is no exception. This play is full of witty humor, heartbreaking undertones, and revenge (which I'm always a fan of). Rushing creates a wonderful world for these characters and each plays their part beautifully, and is able to portray sickness in a way where the characters aren't defined by it, but rather it's just part of their character instead of their entirety.

There is also a wonderful use of Spanish, which just adds another great layer to this already great play.

  • Izzy Salant: NEVER IS NOW

Having seen this play twice at Skylight, and having had the pleasure to read it, I can safely tell you that this is a story (really a collection of stories) that is not only beautifully told, but needs to be. Kout excellently uses the stories of survivors and the stories of the acting troupe to blend together a harrowing, real, and beautiful piece.

  • Izzy Salant: Politically Erect

Ryan Michael Dunn never ceases to make his audience laugh, and Politically Erect is proof of that. In this brilliant satirical farce, Dunn manages to build a whole world and bring it to execution in just one act, and keeps you guessing and laughing the whole time. I hope everyone gets a chance to read and see this piece.

  • Izzy Salant: Wild Thing

Thank you to Harley Erdman for translating this piece to share with the world. This story of bravery, identity, and revenge is timeless, and is a story audiences and theaters should crave for many years to come. I felt honored to have read the first translation and it see it staged, and I hope that you will all get the chance to see this magnificent work.

  • Izzy Salant: The Feline Optometrist

From the first time I saw the character names to the last stage direction, I found myself having to look away from my laptop while I laughed a hearty, ugly laugh. What a wonderful parody of film noir that will make you say, "What the f**k?" in the best way possible.

Also, I will always give a thumbs up to a play about cats.

  • Izzy Salant: Penthesilea: The Woman Who Killed Achilles

Burial at Thebes showed the world that modern playwrights could adapt stories and make them feel as if they were written in the times of the Greeks. Thank god Rossi lives in our time, so we can experience his ability to do so.

Penthesilea takes a myth we all know, gives us a different side to it, and allows for a comedic drama of a war imbued bloodbath filled to the brim with myths and allegories. So as the description says, "It's time to go back to Troy. Will you join me?" I'm incredibly glad I said yes.
