  • 19 Excellent Reasons to Date Matthew Weaver (a monologue)

I smiled all the way through reading this monologue, and paused a couple of times to re-read lines and let them truly sink in. It's so charming and funny, but also so wonderfully vulnerable. I would be delighted to watch this!
  • Wendy and the Neckbeards

I would love to see this staged. The Neckbeards felt like a Greek chorus, and the blending of structures added to the sense that these issues have been around forever and do not have an end in sight. This can be such a dark topic, but somehow the play feels breezy and light while also hitting the issues hard. It feels simple and complex at the same time, and I imagine it would lead to great conversations among the audience afterwards.
  • That Fat Bitch Loved to Run Her Mouth

This play will make you re-think family. At a funeral, mourners tend to remember the deceased how they prefer to remember them, and Joe is here to set the record straight about Miss Puppy Mills. You'll find him brash but sincere and I began to mourn for Miss Puppy Mills myself by the end. I loved how in ten minutes, Benjamin Carr addressed so many issues, and did it with endearing style. I have thought about Joe frequently since I read this play, and have to remind myself he's a fictional character. That's great writing.

Such a sweet meet-cute! I could picture the whole encounter and it left a smile on my face. Super charming.

I felt like I knew Emily's characters immediately, like I was in the diner with them. I loved how a setting that felt like home to me could then take on such an out of this world twist, yet still feel so relatable. I've been wondering how her characters are doing since I finished reading it!
  • A small breach in protocol at Big Rick's Rockin' Skydive Academy

The title alone hooked me, and then the play itself wouldn't let me go. It's a great mix of absurdity because of the situation the characters are in and comedy with a dollop of heartache and facing mortality as well. It would be such a fun show to put on!

Rachel's play is a poetic dance. The subject matter makes it an important but tough read. She lays out the awful reality of Sally's upcoming life with nuance, allowing the audience to come to the conclusions needed. I wish I could have seen the staging at the OOB festival!

This play is so beautiful and also completely devastating. When I saw it at the OOB Festival the staging was absolutely breathtaking, and I was left feeling like I had completely run the gambit of human emotion in less than twenty minutes. So important, relevant, and well written.

So naturally written, you'll feel like you're watching a conversation in real time. When I saw it at the OOB festival I was completely engrossed. Incredibly important, poignant and honest.

The casualness of the show highlights the dark comedy even more. I kept thinking, "Wait, is this really happening?" in the best way. I laughed out loud in delighted surprise when I saw it performed!
