  • John Busser: Run, Hide, Fight - 10 Minute Play

03.03.25 - This was heartbreaking from the get go, but absolutely necessary. We live in a world where people are more concerned about keeping and using guns than their effect on their targets. And what's most disheartening is that our children are going to grow up thinking this is standard operating procedure and will become complacent about it. Alexa Schoffel has written an important piece here. Don't skip it.

  • John Busser: (Not) Letting Go (Ten Minute)

03.03.25 - "This is like watching a train wreck that I just can’t stop." This statement perfectly encapsulates the frustration one can feel when they see self-destructive behavior in someone who can't see it in themselves. Paul Donnelly gives us a pair of sisters, one of whom is in denial about her responsibilities to her son and the need to let him fly the nest. The other sister can only shake her head in resignation that this won't change. The umbilical is too strong here. Deeply affecting.

  • John Busser: A PLAY YOU CAN USE TO APPLY FOR FUNDS FROM THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT OF THE ARTS UNDER THE GUIDELINES OF THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION

03.02.25 - Oof! I'd say this was a splash of cold water to the face about our "enlightened democracy" but we've been living with this mean-spirited, screw-everybody-in-pursuit-of-the-almighty-dollar, my-way-or-the-highway for a while now. That being said, every so often, it's good to have it thrown right back in our faces. Greg Lam (or should I say, Freedom McLiberty) knows this. That's for the reminder.

  • John Busser: Cheers to New Beginnings

03.02.25 - What COULD have just capitalized on the incongruities people have as fodder for comedy, gets taken on a slightly deeper and more enriching path by Deb Cole. I liked how natural the characters sound getting to know the other person while dealing with new realizations about themselves along the way. Deb is great at these kind of interactions, and I highly recommend you give this a spin.

  • John Busser: Wake up with WKUP

03.02.25 - Like all great farces, Brent Alles' cast of nutjobs at the fictional WKUP works best when order works least. The constant escalation of chaos adds to the fun here as each segment throws more gas on the out of control fire taking place before the cameras. I'd love to see a theater try to pull this off live although I feel like a lot of lines would be lost to ever louder peals of laughter from the audience.

  • John Busser: We Are Cranston

03.02.25 - WOWWEE, That was SOOO inappropriately hilariously dark. I loved it. Even the demise of the opposing team is so bonkers, you can't help but laugh at the senseless, yet funny as hell tragedy of it all. The Coach, blinded by ambition, tries every Hail Mary trick in the book to convince his kids to crush the already suffering JV team. Adults... we're the worst. Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend has scored a game-winning touchdown with this one.

  • John Busser: waiting for the bus

03.02.25 - Okay, I never saw this coming (apparently, neither did Travis) and the reveal hits you like a crosstown bus. But that's the beauty of a Christopher Soucy script. Even getting blindsided is wonderfully done. I don't want to give anything away, but if anyone is doing this show, you should Uber over there right now to see it.

  • John Busser: US AMBASSADOR TO UKRAINE: A MONOLOGUE

03.01.25 - I never thought a monologue would make me want to punch our current political administration right in it's goddamn mouth. Thanks to Asher Wyndham, I now think it.

  • John Busser: 37 Origami Bees

02.28.25 - Like a modern-day venture into Tales From the Crypt, this play gives us a boss so vile you want him to get his comeuppance on page 2. But how much more satisfying as we watch him put the noose around his own neck with his arrogance and uncaring attitude. If you don't get a "YES!" from at least one audience member a night, I'd be shocked. A wish fulfillment play if ever I saw one. Colette Murphy has a winner here.

  • John Busser: Black Coffee Noir

02.24.25 - There's always time for PI. P.I. John Pi, that is. And it's always a treat to get even a small piece of the pie when Chris Plumridge decides to dole some out. And though he left Morey Norkin with his dignity intact this time, the spirit of their collaboration lives on. There's still the same fun names, silly pun-filled dialogue, in-jokes, meta humor and 4th-wall breaking we've come to expect. This time though, there's a supernatural aspect to the story. Or IS there? Read and find out.
