  • Nilsa Reyna: DERECHO

I've enjoyed seeing this play develop over the last couple of years! It was especially timely during the 2020 US presidential election, and will continue to have great impact as more of the Latinx diaspora fight for equity and equality.

  • Nilsa Reyna: The Lonely (A Fictionally Non-Accurate Historical KiKi)

This play is a wonderful blend of fantasy and truth. I love that some of our well known literary figures are together in one room. Some of the lines wound, some of them delight, and many of them make you ponder race, class, and privilege.

  • Nilsa Reyna: The Play You Want

Cubria does a fine job of writing both a love letter to the theatre, and also calling it out for all the injustices it upholds. I also hold experimental clown plays and Gilbert Cruz in high regard, and I look forward to laughing a lot when this play gets fully produced.

  • Nilsa Reyna: The Siblings Play

Ren Dara Santiago welcomes you inside a family's home and then delicately, but swiftly exposes you to struggle and trauma. The siblings makes you laugh, but also break your heart as you witness the fragility of life through their constant fight for survival. This is a necessary work that needs more productions!

  • Nilsa Reyna: Manuel vs. the Statue of Liberty

Davila and de la Puente make a great team and create work that's accessible, entertaining, and heartfelt. This musical has a nice blend of earnest and uplifting songs. "Change the Law," "Contender," and The Statue's Torch Song" are some of my favorites. This musical deserves a full production after the pandemic is over!

  • Nilsa Reyna: Escobar's Hippo

I love this adaptation of Eugene Ionesco's Rhinoceros and I can't wait to see a production! While this play, could be produced in a variety of ways, it deserves to be produced in a large house that can accommodate the theatrically sculpted world it lives in.

  • Nilsa Reyna: Before You Get Married

Gonzalez has a knack for throwing us into worlds of darkness, yet also keeping us hopeful. The stakes are high and I was slowly drawn in by subtext, pain, and sensuality. The ending is well-earned.

  • Nilsa Reyna: The Jersey Devil Is a Papi Chulo

I love that we meet five funny friends who also embody five distinct identities within the Latinx diaspora. When they realize they are camping and not glamping, how far will they go to survive? Should they trust the two "woke" bros? Are they "psychobros"? Who knew a post covid-19 farce would be needed so soon?! The dates provide great opportunities for physicality and dare a cast "to boldly go where no [one] has gone before."

  • Nilsa Reyna: Coquito

I love that we only see this family as they welcome the new year. We experience hope and struggle with them and I don't think I've read a play with such a caring cast of characters. I wish I had enjoyed coquito as I read this play. :)
