  • Things I Don't Want to Talk About: a hero(ine)'s journey
    13 Nov. 2017
Having both seen and read this play, I can say that the gold that is this piece shines bright onstage. This play earns the empathy it generates in its audience by raw honesty coupled with relatable quirk and anxiety. We take the journey with Gina, and we don't want it to end until we know she's safe. She connects with us because her comforts are ours: teddy bears, pop culture, solving puzzles (especially when the puzzle is our brains). I laughed and cried through this piece, and I left with the best gift theatre can give - a bigger heart.
  • The Ice Treatment

So I literally carried this play around with me for weeks. Like, the printed script. I'd read it in restaurants. I'd read it on trains. On buses. I'd read it *to* people. I'd finish it, and then start again. It's that. Damn. Good. Here, Eppler gives us a gift of a play, filled with vast humanity artfully compressed into an object, or a moment, or a line. The arc of this play, centering around the brilliantly crafted Blondie, feels as natural as can be. You're along for her ride, and you're happy to be there. This play is genius.
  • The Diver

This play is exactly what modern theatre needs: a powerful story revolving around a strong, female, Syrian refugee lead. Kari Bentley-Quinn has a knack for painting a future that both evolves key facets of the present while building a bold new world. In THE DIVER, the audience dives for the past in the same way Amena does, and what we surface with is just as cathartic. This is an essential story for the modern stage, as, maybe, if we all pay attention, we can be better than our projected future.

GOLDSBORO is an amazing play! Nat Cassidy has such a talent for so much of what we love about theatre, and all of that presents here. I don't think I'll forget the opening monologue of the play anytime soon - it grabs you and doesn't let you go until the final tableau (though, frankly, it's still holding onto me). This play also uses a range of linguistic styles and quirks to add to characters' personalities and entice the audience into the story even further. I loved reading GOLDSBORO, a play that should be produced as often as possible!
  • Online Education
    9 Nov. 2017
ONLINE EDUCATION is a marvelous 10-minute that reveals so much about the Kafkaesque side of modern education. By using a computer as an algorithm'd being in charge of dispensing education and careers to learners, Case has shown us a world where, unless you have privilege, you're often condemned to a terrible fate for absolutely no reason. Does that sound a lot like the world we live in? Why, yes. Yes it does. But, through Case's wonderful humor and talent for dialogue, we don't feel the punch until we hit the play's chilling final moment.
  • Let There Be Love
    8 Nov. 2017
LET THERE BE LOVE is a heartfelt, funny, intelligent script featuring three-dimensional characters, all of whom you end up caring about. DeeDee is fantastic, and would surely be a joy for any actor to play (think Patti Stanger from *Millionaire Matchmaker,* only better). The genuine laughs in the play separate this piece from most that try to comment on the matchmaking scene. Where they tend to look down on the profession, this play never does that. It never loses sight of the fact that we're talking about real, raw, human emotion. Bravo, Mrinalini!

This play is amazing! Not only is Schmidt's dialogue active, engaging, and funny, his social commentary is cutting and ever-relevant. The play's final scene still resonates with me, nearly a year after I heard it read. I look forward to a production of this play having the same awesome impact on its audiences.
  • Thrill Day

Seeing this play develop at the Ingram New Works Lab at Nashville Rep was magical. The piece is couched in history, but done so with heart, humanity, and complexity. In THRILL DAY, steam trains crash as people do - haplessly colliding with one another in pursuit of money, adventure, and release. I'm such a huge fan of this play, which I hope is performed as loudly as a train crash, as, in the dissipating smoke, we will see ourselves.
  • Lily in Love
    11 Jan. 2016
What a great play! Very much cuts to the bone of a three-dimensional immigrant experience. The emotional honesty of *Lily In Love* makes it stand out as a fantastic exploration of what it means to grow away from, and toward, cultural tradition.
  • Air Space

Air Space is a fantastic, experimental piece that pulls audiences in by their hearts and minds. Characters are extremely dynamic, situations incredibly theatrical, and the set begs to be seen onstage. I cannot recommend this play enough.
