  • Boycott Esther
    10 Sep. 2020
Examines the rippling ramifications of sexual harassment--from the abuser, to those who worked alongside them, to those who barely knew them (but depended on them for employment)--and how online backlash affects each member of this ecosystem. Acker empathetically examines the roots of toxic masculinity without downplaying its devastating effects, and offers a nuanced meditation on how one's stance on whether to burn a system down or try to change it from the inside can shift when that system gets personal. This play nails the #MeToo moment, yet is timeless in exploring how we best achieve change.
  • The Ordinariness of Everything Else
    15 Oct. 2017
This deft exploration of marriage, romantic love, family, and fidelity humanizes polyamory and open marriages, mining these emotional connections to make them more than hot-take issues. The playwright imbues her characters with a rich history through clever, resonant dialogue and breathtaking reveals. The play's blend of humor with deeply personal subjects makes it hilarious, thought-provoking, and compelling. I couldn't stop reading it.

I too saw this play at Bechdel Fest 5 and was captivated by the suspense, paranormal elements, and emotion packed into this compelling one act."
