  • Aly Kantor: That Wasn't Mistletoe (from HOW MY PRINCE CHARMING TURNED OUT TO BE A FROG)

This is a delightful, symmetrical little play about what happens when cultures clash at Christmastime—and how new, precious holiday traditions are born! It's a quick, laugh-out-loud piece that would be a blast for American OR French audiences...maybe ideal for Canadians? Ha! The versatility in the casting makes it an easily staged, open-ended option for some festive levity in any wintertime program!

  • Aly Kantor: Everyday Monsters

This tense play starts off with a bang, with clear stakes and a heightened scenario that had me at the edge of my seat. It's immediately clear through the carefully crafted dialogue that these two characters have a history, and the nature of it is clear from the jump. What moved me was how this play was more than a story of abuse - it is a clear call to action about breaking cycles and moving forward without perpetuating violence. The ending is shocking but effective and will stay with me for a long time.

  • Aly Kantor: CANOPY

There is such a sense of play in this script, which is notable because it's a vehicle for mature actors! The characters have a phenomenal, natural rapport that tells us so much about the longevity of their relationship. The action of the play is waiting, and the events of the play are utterly mundane, yet we care about these specific, flawed, lovable individuals from the start. The humor is the star, but there are so many surprisingly poetic lines throughout. Plus, this play is a 4D experience! As the play progresses, the theatricality in this brilliant doubling plot sings. Lovely!

  • Aly Kantor: Little Egg, Big World

What is a sperm or egg donor's responsibility to a child born as a result of that donation? Rather than focusing on that story, we follow one such "donor kid" as she navigates her decision to donate eggs herself and perpetuate a process that, at times, harmed her. It's highly theatrical, with near-infinite possibilities for staging. It's complex and compelling and may change the way you see some of the people in your life. I found it incredibly cathartic and moving, and loved that it leaves audiences with positivity and a call to action.

  • Aly Kantor: To the Test

Is this play absurd? Sure. As a former teacher, however, there is so much TRUTH in this play that even the humor stings! Frankly, seeing the absurdity of teacher evaluations depicted this way made me feel seen and even vindicated! The dialogue is both funny and infuriating, the characters heightened but still spitting real-life rhetoric. Having seen first-hand how expectations from the top transform great teachers, I know how much truth there is behind the words in this script. The table metaphor was too real! This is a fast-paced, important work with the power to transform perspectives.

  • Aly Kantor: Everything You Can Do (To Make the World a Better Place)

This play is elegant. This play is hilarious. This play will make you laugh as it makes you think - often the images that make you laugh will be the ones that stay with you for other reasons. The structure and quiet escalation are brilliant, and the moment of reversal is subtle and sublime. The story comes full circle in an inevitable but harrowing way. This play makes you ask what you are passionate about, and why love isn't enough. How do you make a difference? CAN you make a difference? Is violence inevitable? Excellent, thought-provoking work!

  • Aly Kantor: The Mantegna Effect

How did Brent Alles know I have a pathological fear of dying while listening to an embarrassing song? And how did he know I love stories about alternate universes? This play provides some HILARIOUS explanations for all sorts of uncanny real-world phenomena (which I won't spoil - it's too much fun)! This comedy will make you wonder what you'd do with the power to change one tiny (or not-so-tiny) aspect of reality. Come for the jokes, stay for Chekov's letter opener! This one's a hoot!

  • Aly Kantor: THE LAST DATE

This intelligent, harrowing, but ultimately hopeful metatheatrical play is a powerful vehicle for changing lives and perspectives. The framing makes it clear that the audience is part of the performance, but the unspoken contract - of dining in restaurants, of the theatre - makes them simultaneously spectators and complicit bystanders. As a reader or audience member, you will be forced to interrogate which character you believe and why and will leave the theatre with that realization at the top of your mind. This will certainly spark necessary and important conversations between audience...

  • Aly Kantor: Live, Laugh, Lobotomize

Every now and then, we all find ourselves in The Darkness - and those who have seen the deepest depths will relate to the protagonist in this charming, moving fantasy play. Despite the "dark" setting, you won't find a more colorful and charming cast of quirky, hilarious characters. I have never found kinship with a character as quickly as Flurk! There is a lot of very good advice hidden in this monstrous metaphor that many people need to hear (myself included) - I really think this is a powerful piece that could transform mindsets and save lives. A theatrical treat!

  • Aly Kantor: Ruby Tuesday

Ruby has every reason to leap from a ledge. Still, the question of "why?" will propel audiences to the bittersweet conclusion of this modern-day superhero origin story.

The play is a bit of warm, wish-fulfillment bliss for a new generation of superfans. The audience receives the exposition in the form of a few efficient, unorthodox therapy sessions, loaded with snappy humor and unexpected chemistry. As the trust grows, the confessions come fast and furious, until the ensemble puts all the clues together and reveals a surprising truth. Some thrilling visuals and theatrical magic make it an...
