7 Days to Mexican by Annette Sanchez centers on the lovable (and very complex) Newman family. It’s a heartfelt play about Mexican/Mexican-American identity, following years of forced assimilation. I really enjoyed the premise of the play and found myself deeply caring for all of these characters. Both comical and at times heartbreaking, Sanchez will make you laugh and tug at your heartstrings.

An examination of what love is, brilliantly scrutinized through the stories of the various characters.
I loved the musicality of the dialogue, along with the imagery woven throughout.

Nina Ki has written the perfect Zoom play.

Crushing on your best friend, not knowing whether those feelings are reciprocated, is difficult enough. Now add an apocalypse. All I can say is this is one of the plays that I'll be thinking about for a while.

I am in love with this play! It is through SKIN that I first heard about Jeoly. Ultimately, Jeoly's story touches on the long history of tattoos in Filipinx culture and Western imperialism. The use of parallel and, yet simultaneously, intersecting timelines is effective in showing how racism and white supremacy continue to exist in the present (and are not merely operating in the past). Guerzon is such a skilled storyteller! I hope to see this produced one day!

Absolutely phenomenal writing! The constantly changing group dynamic, along with character relationships, was gripping to watch. As a reader, I felt almost as if I were there. This trio of characters felt both recognizable and, yet also, unfamiliar.

Culture Night addresses what it means to be Filipinx-American, particularly in spaces in which one’s cultural identity is denied, overlooked, or diminished. While this topic is heavy, there is a certain joy present throughout the piece (which I really appreciated). Dance and music are such an integral part of this play and throughout, I found myself wanting to dance. I cannot wait to one day see this play performed.
