  • I love it when a play takes advantage of being a play. The set evokes both a warm and comfortable inn and then shifts when it becomes an enclosed space. Characters embody others and old versions of themselves. And even the ending further engages the audience's imagination while also concluding the story. So many parts of this play exemplify theatricality.

  • Great ensemble piece with so many exciting staging opportunities! It is an existential journey through time (and almost space) with whimsy, humor, and a bit of dread. The play captures the joy and sadness that can result from the hunger for knowledge and progress.

  • A play that takes all the inherent gender inequity of childbirth and flips it on its head. I loved getting a window into a relationship with an "abundance of uteri", a relationship that asks "why should I be the one to carry the baby?" Explored with humor, love, and generosity.

  • I saw UT Austin's production of this play and loved it!

  • Enthusiastically recommending this script! Faye is such a compelling character. She is really seeking to understand her kids and, in a way, she represents a great divide between gen x and millennials.
All the therapy speak is hilarious and feels like such an accurate representation of the state of our modern discourse.

  • Giulianna Marchese: let's talk about anything else

This is a fast moving, electric play with multiple shoes that drop by the end. It mingles comedy and horror in a way that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Even with a cast of 7, every character is so well developed. Anthony expertly scaffolds this play to a tragic and shocking ending.

  • Giulianna Marchese: OTP

Reminds me of one of Sarah Ruhl's essays about putting bad poetry in the mouths of characters and making a good play. This play perfectly embodies that concept and then some, because by the end Wien also proves herself a very strong poet.

  • Giulianna Marchese: The Magician's Sister

A beautiful play about loss and the pressure that comes with being "gifted." Really enjoyed reading this play!

  • Giulianna Marchese: REALS

Very funny and compelling examination of the hero complex. There is so much to have fun with in this play. The character Sensei is especially fun and I can imagine a lot of great actors hamming up that role.

A couple things really resonate with me in this script. First, the men in the play are often pleading with the women to be complicit in this new system. Sarah is, and her mother is described as, a woman who will fight for her rights and refuse to stay quiet. Both Paul and John are scared of this.
Second, after the fall of Roe, I am constantly aware that if I had a daughter she would have less rights than I use to have. The world of this play already existed once.
