  • Giulianna Marchese: Twenty-Seven

Strong, clear, and at times very funny dialogue. I think this script is excellent for actors.

  • Giulianna Marchese: Gin Mummy

Funny and witty! I love the nods to contemporary language around patriarchy and colonialism. Like the actors sometimes become self aware. It works so well with the style of comedy in the play.

  • Giulianna Marchese: SEEN

This play evokes Squid Games in the beginning and Murder on the Orient Express by the end. All with a comedic twist. Really enjoyed this read!

Lewis is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers! This play is so well written and devastating by the end. She has a great talent for writing devious/hurtful people with love and care. The dialogue is funny at times and will make you cringe at other times.

Really enjoyed reading this play. Bentley-Quinn is great at writing interesting characters and she especially does a great job of writing young people in this play in a way that feels honest and realistic.

  • Giulianna Marchese: American Fast

This play has lots of great opportunities for media design. There is a lot of projection and direct address to the audience, but Fahmy very thoughtfully brings more tangible objects to the stage at certain moments. Food, alcohol, a basketball. It would be so cool to actually watch actors play a game of HORSE on stage.

I also love that this play talks a little about why Muslim's fast and the purpose of the Holiday. If you're looking for a play that explores a mother/daughter relationship, has Arab representation, and opportunities for creative and theatrical staging, read this!

  • Giulianna Marchese: ABRAHAM'S DAUGHTERS

I loved listening to the performance of this play! It's so thoughtful. In our script club conversation, we talked about it being a period piece now and I think that highlights it's importance even more. Very well structured with moments of comedy and great opportunities to share two different cultures on the stage.

  • Giulianna Marchese: The Gift

I love how incredibly thoroughly researched this play feels! And, in speaking with the playwright, it's clear that she consumed a lot of literature and really lived in the world of this play for a long time before and while writing. Considering the content, that is an amazing feat of emotional labor.
I highly recommend reading this play and I would love to see it produced!

  • Giulianna Marchese: Don Quixote de La Center

I love a play that I just know will have an amazing talkback. The subject matter in this play is so personal and pretty much everyone will encounter this at some point in their life. I can imagine that it would be such a great conversation with audiences sharing their experiences, both sad and humorous moments with loved ones.

  • Giulianna Marchese: GIANT SLALOM

I have wanted to include this play in Red Theater's script club for so long. One interesting thing that our conversation highlighted is the choice of time. I'm so fascinated with the differences in the voices of young millennials versus gen z. It's such as strong choice to set this play in 2017 and you can hear that choice in the way the characters speak and what they speak about.
