In July 2024 my one act comedy-drama 'Cliff on the Edge' was performed as part of the New Writing Festival at Abbey Theatre, St Albans and 'Last Egg & Cress Standing' was performed in Dial M for Monologue at the same theatre in May 2025.

In October 2026 two of my plays will be produced - a short comedy-drama 'Stop and Smell the Roses' by HHTheatreCo at Boxmoor Playhouse, Hemel Hempstead and a one act drama 'Come In No. 8' by Company of Ten at Abbey Theatre. Since spring 2023 I have been involved in co-ordinating the writing group at the Abbey Theatre, organising regular meetings to enable writers to read new material for constructive feedback, assisting with rehearsed reading events and regularly emailing writing articles and playwriting opportunities.

The Visitor follows the story of Ella, an elderly widow, over a four month period when her stepson David informs her that he wants to sell the house she lives in, urging her to find someone to move in with her – Angela, in the hope that she can continue living there. But what about the other visitor?

A moving and poignant one act play (which could also be two acts if required) with supernatural elements, which touches on 'the last big mystery', being the possibility of life after death. Although the play's main themes are homelessness, grief, old age, living on your own and approaching the end of your life, it is also one of close friendships, change and hope, with lighter moments of humour running throughout.

Barbara is admitted to a geriatric ward in an NHS hospital and meets Judith, a patient in the next hospital bed. She soon becomes afraid of her situation, exasperated by her lack of sleep and initially driven to distraction by Charlie, a patient who suffers from mental illness. Barbara is visited by her son-in-law Simon, who suggests that she be more positive and accept that her circumstances will improve. She quickly changes her outlook and takes her mind off being ill by befriending Judith, playing draughts with her and using her time more productively by trying to find a place for Charlie to live, as she has been living in the same ward for the past four months. Before Judith leaves, Barbara discovers that Charlie can also play draughts and she enjoys her games and one sided chats with her, including explaining how her plans are coming on. Finally, with Barbara’s health beginning to show some improvement, life begins to look a little brighter – possibly for both of them.

The trouble is, Harvey’s long held secret has also been revealed but lying in a hospital bed, he can’t speak for himself. How does a family come to terms with these suddenly unravelled truths? And why can’t everything be as easy as pie?

An entertaining drama with plenty of family dynamics and twists, plus a pleasing final plot twist. The title gives a playful nod to Mike Leigh's film Secrets & Lies. 'Secrets & Pies is the sensational new kitchen sink drama of our time (or at least for the first minute!)' Marc Harris

Daniel decides to clear out his previous girlfriend’s remaining belongings, placing them by the wall for anyone to take but does not envisage Anna, a stranger making herself comfortable in a deckchair in his front garden. Could serendipity strike?

N.B. The catchphrase used in the dialogue - ‘That’ll do for me Tommy’, will understandably not be familiar to a non-British audience. Tommy Cannon and Bobby Ball (yes – they really were named that!) were a popular comedy double act in the 80s, with several well known catchphrases. If this play is performed in the US, I would be happy for an alternative catchphrase to be used from an American comedian/double act instead. The comedy drama programme Detectorists may also be changed to a popular quirky American drama. (Or whatever is relevant to the country it is performed in).

This was originally written for a radio play competition and had to include a Christmas setting plus a line from a Christmas song or carol incorporated into the script which is ‘What can I give him, poor as I am?’ from the beautiful In The Bleak Midwinter, one of my favourite carols and suggested music at the start of the monologue.
