  • Greg Mandryk: A More Beautiful Reflection

Vampires started out as monsters and then somewhere along the line became romanticized. A deluge of vampire stories wherein the monster who feeds off of everyone else falls hopelessly in love with the protagonist began to emerge. Scott Sickles reminds us that vampires are monsters and there are no happy endings dealing with such people in this tense, effective short horror story. Well done!

My kind of play! It's light and fun... and then it isn't. By the time you realize it's not just trying to tickle your funny bone, the knife is already in. Good stuff!

  • Greg Mandryk: Everything Bagel

Many ten-minute dramas attempt too much, trying to condense an entire relationship or an entire lifetime into a few short pages and the result is usually an exposition-laden slog. Cam Eickmeyer keeps it simple and effectively elicits the reader’s emotions in this touching, heartfelt piece. Well done!

  • Greg Mandryk: Man's Next Friend

A nice, tender-hearted piece, yet with a biting social critique. Through Daisy, we get a glimpse at the indifference, prejudices, and predatory urges of the humans around her. An excellent showcase for actresses.

  • Greg Mandryk: Rewind

It seamlessly transitions from comedy to sci-fi to a horror piece wherein the hapless victim meets a fate worse than death. Morey Norkin delivers a fun piece teeming with eerie surrealism.

  • Greg Mandryk: Mr. Spinoza, Substitute Creature

Classic Busser. It's a pun-loving nod to the classic Universal Studio monster flicks.

  • Greg Mandryk: Umbrella Man's Magical Umbrella

A delightful, little jaunt into a world of romantic absurdity. Fun stuff!

  • Greg Mandryk: In The Whole History of Hi-Q

A short but excellent tale of a sinking ship. In Tommy, Gatton has written a perfect depiction of willful ignorance. It's not that he isn't smart enough to see his own faults. He's merely unwilling, choosing to foist blame onto others. In the end, the captain does indeed go down with the ship. Well done!

  • Greg Mandryk: Burying the Lead (or Playing Dead)

I had the pleasure of seeing a staged reading of this. In the hands of a skilled cast (which he had), this one's a hoot. Some fun jokes and plenty of "Hey actor, show me what you got!" moments.

To me, a good script is one that says, "C'mon! You know you'd love to be in this thing in front of a live audience." A good script begs to be performed. If this were to be produced in a one-act festival near me, I'd happily brush up my acting resume and head off to audition.
