Clarisse is 16, the same age her brother Nathan was when he left home 11 years ago due to their mother's emotional neglect and extreme hoarding. When their mother Frances is taken into a temporary psychiatric hold, Child Protective Services demands the house be cleaned up or Clarisse will be removed. Nathan returns home to obtain custody of his little sister and offer her the path he once chose. Clarisse wants to stay and asks Nathan to help her clean. He agrees to help, hoping he'll be able to convince her that she deserves a different life in the process. As they clean, the siblings navigate their complicated relationship, opposing views of their mother, and the burdens they carry.
