  • Iyna Caruso: AN AMAZING PESADIC CHOCOLATE CAKE

This play starts with the familiar: A host of a popular TV cooking series demonstrates how to make a traditional holiday cake. But then Melinda Gros takes a brilliant turn that shows us how an ordinary act like baking set against grave circumstances can be a powerful tool that brings hope, connection and unity.

  • Iyna Caruso: 1994: STEALING THE SCREAM (10-minute play)

What goes through the mind of a thief who nabs one of the world’s most famous paintings? J. S. Puller cleverly explores the motivations, the unresolved pain and the internal debates that lead to the shocking act. Puller packs a ton into 10 minutes, a testament to her storytelling skills.

  • Iyna Caruso: Case Study: Ruth Ellis

I wasn’t aware of the Ruth Ellis case, so I love that Feeny-Williams put me in the role of both student and juror. This is a great think piece with an ending that set off many internal debates. Feeny-Williams does what every writer aims for: leave the audience wanting to go down the rabbit hole to learn more.

  • Iyna Caruso: is my sun shining?

The heartache depicted in Ian Donley’s play is so relatable, a period when emotions fluctuate wildly and actions can defy logic. This story revolving around the spirit of a dead lover feels real and even hopeful. The grief-stricken character left behind to pick up the pieces of his life gets answers to his lingering questions and a chance to say things that were left unsaid. Skillfully done.

  • Iyna Caruso: Is This Franks Phone?

Is a series of repetitive and unwanted texts a technical glitch? An annoying prank? Or something more fiendish? I love how Christopher Plumridge’s character has the matter under control – until events take a chilling turn and leave us with a sense of foreboding.

  • Iyna Caruso: A Second Chance to Say Goodbye

John Busser takes us on an emotional journey we never saw coming. This play delivers on so many levels. It’s heartbreaking, provocative, achingly real and leaves you wondering about the lengths we’re willing to go for the sake of love.

  • Iyna Caruso: YOURS EVER - THE RISE OF ISABELLA STEWART GARDNER

I love any play that makes me go down a rabbit hole to learn more. This excerpt of Yours Ever does exactly that. There are so many layers to Michele Clarke's story of Isabella Stewart Gardener, a woman who had to overcome so many personal and societal challenges to become a great patron of the arts. I can’t wait to read more. Or better yet, see it performed.

  • Iyna Caruso: Paper Dream

I had a chance to see a staged reading of Paper Dream. It’s an important period of little-known history and Nalan captures it in all its complexities. The characters are richly drawn and their struggles are universal. This is a play that deserves a wide audience.

  • Iyna Caruso: My Girls

Feeny-Williams brings humanity to characters most of society brushes off. Every one of her “girls” has a story, some desperately tragic. Yet, there’s a feeling of hope—things can get better—as long as you have someone who will sit by you, stand by you and let you share your darkest moments.

  • Iyna Caruso: DASTARDLY DEVON - MONOLOGUE

Oh, so sweet and clever. Deb Meyer turns a classic tale on its head and gives it a modern spin. The Big Bad Wolf is the underdog you’re rooting for. This monologue left me wanting more, which is perfect since Meyer expanded Dastardly Devon into a 30-minute play.
