  • James Binz: Copycat

Dealing with Writer's block can be terrible. It makes everyone consider themselves a fraud. We grasp onto any possible lifesaver in the hopes of writing something original again. This is not necessarily about women writers as about all writers at some time or another. I'm becoming a Dana Hall fan.

  • James Binz: Moonless Night

Wonderful short piece with unique characters. Mia has a strong want and the stakes are high enough to generate heat. The arrangement between two very broken people, rapidly coming to some new moment - the dialogue is crisp and the plot is strong. Another variation of a love story. Good stuff.

  • James Binz: Maeve's Camellia

Wow! Vibrant and interesting and raw. I'd love to see this staged. At first, I was thrown by the sameness of the voices - but that became a strong point quickly and the characters maintained their separateness. The protagonist/antagonist nature had good motivation (the want) and strong stakes. The dialogue is natural and easy and surprising. The slow but luscious reveal of the true nature of the characters was close to perfect. I agree that there is a stunning conclusion that is both unexpected and satisfying. Wonderful characters in an easy setting. A powerful tale!!

  • James Binz: Tink in the Clink

cute short piece. This Tink won't likely be played by Julia Roberts!

  • James Binz: Murder at the Orient Burlesque

What a fun romp! Using these old-time burlesque characters must have been a blast! I loved the plot, and the dialogues were wonderful. This would be fun to see. Great murder mystery that keeps you wondering to the end -"Who done it?" Brava!

  • James Binz: THE LITTLE GIRL DOWN BY THE LAKE

Nicely written. Actors of that age would have a lot of lines and action to do. The dialogue is tight and true sounding. The ghost part is believable and works very well. Never saw the end coming, which is very unusual for me.

  • James Binz: The Actress - One Act Play

Interesting setting and nicely written. Dialogue is excellent and the characters are well formed. I could hardly wait for the denouement! A nice strong read.

  • James Binz: Only A Matter Of Time (a three minute play)

Nice take in a short piece. Funny for a serious topic and well written.

  • James Binz: A Play about David Mamet Writing a Play about Harvey Weinstein

Quite a roller-coaster of a work! As a fan and student of the Mamet Masterclass in playwriting, I have often been confronted with the challenge this piece examines - especially the "theater must entertain, not educate." I can also see both the cis white male problem vs the everyone else problem. Sadly, the final scene shouts to the fact that women, bipoc, LGBTQ+ and more have a place in the professional theater world and the rage expressed might be a bit misplaced? All in all, this had much funny and much poignant and much Wonderful and much horrible.

  • James Binz: Cabfare For The Common Man (a ten minute play)

Really good stuff. The extended metaphor works better than I could have imagined. Not sure I can imagine the motion plan - but it would be very exciting to see. Ended at an interesting point - might not work to actually "arrive". Very nicely written.
