Set on a war-torn island during World War II, Lonely People follows a small group of survivors holding onto faith, love, and the thin hope of connection as everything familiar falls away. In a place shaped by absence and waiting, silence often carries more weight than speech. The play looks at how longing, grief, and brief moments of closeness become a way to endure when despair feels inescapable. It asks whether we reach for others to find meaning, or simply to reassure ourselves that we still exist.

At its heart, Lonely People is about isolation and the quiet damage of everyday life. The story unfolds through restrained moments, sudden truths, and heavy pauses, echoing how real conversations often circle what matters most without ever landing on it.

The play opens with Hamlet believing he is attending a rehearsal, only to be surprised that the audience is already in attendance. The Director then informs him to only perform the “To be or not to be” soliloquy, since that is what the audience came to see. Through the play Hamlet struggles between classical theatre and the Director’s “modern-day” ideas, and through comedic events is continuously interrupted causing more frustration until he finally snaps at the curtain call.
