And No One Was Lying is a dramatic one-act social commentary on gun violence---specifically on how it relates it school shootings. Simmons, Jones, and Bethany are all being interviewed by two detectives, Oliver and Sarah, after a school shooting at Possen Prep Academy—the school that Bethany attends. The shooter is none other than Bethany herself. The play is told through a series of three police interviews given respectively to Simmons, Jones, then Bethany. Simmons is a moderately conservative middle-aged security guard who is hired to watch over Possen Prep. Jones is an old teacher who serves as a wise, grandfatherly figure at Possen Prep. Bethany is a narcissistic, academically gifted individual with a skewed view of the people in the world around her. Bethany is mostly seen throughout the perspective of Jones and Simmons, whether through their actual interactions with her or through parallels they see in her with other people in their lives. Nevertheless, we see how all of their perspectives affect their view of their relationships with the people around them, as well as the conclusions they draw from their experience.
