OFFSTAGE is a satirical look into the world of community theater. The show centers around a Fast Pitch session where theaters invite people with show ideas to complete to get funding for their show.

We have made a proof of concept video over zoom but would like to shoot it in an actual theater, covid willing.

Community theater uses "new" show events like this or festivals to convince their patrons that they are developing new theater usually for the purposes of fundraising but when push comes to shove they do safe bets by established authors. Sticking with established authors excludes new voices, queer writers and performers, and people of color.

Based loosely on the Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol, a classic tale of redemption, love, and forgiveness. If that what you are looking for keep going. Our story is about truth. It's December 24th, 2020 The President of the United States, Donald J Trump is alone wandering around the oval office. His niece Mary Trump approaches him with a book deal as a way for him to tell the truth to the American people, score a huge payday (bigger than Obama's). Over the course of the evening, the President is visited by a Rabbi, Michael Cohen, and three Ghost Writers. The Ghostwriters meet with Trump to see if he has found redemption and if they can, get the truth out of him.

This play uses explicit language: the F'bomb and references to sex.

This is a work of fiction and fantasy. We are pretty sure Trump would never tell the truth no matter how big the book deal.

The point of the game is to win squares agreeing or disagreeing with the statement. The old game show seemed a perfect metaphor for belief or disbelief in our political and media system. Ultimately how do we know if people in power are lying to us or not?

I kept the original and familiar structure, I have rewritten the script and characters so they are at once familiar but comment on our society focusing on the friction between the liberal and conservative wings.
