This play drew me in from page one and didn't let go until the end. It is filled with incredibly powerful statements on the human condition. It uses suspense and creeping horror deliciously. With simple staging requirements and a small cast, this could be perfect for a festival.

I'm using Mr. Goodwin's play, #matter, in my classroom, so I was excited to read one of his longer scripts. Blackademics' breadth and depth are amazing. Goodwin creates a beautiful metaphor for the competition and white supremacy we see in academia. He subtly (and sometimes overtly) drifts into his signature break beat poetry, so I'm going to have to go back and read some of the poetry aloud to understand the rhythms better. What a clever show!

Competition never leaves the table especially when you're in academia. A fascinating debate that is hilarious and so delightfully fun! Spectacular!

I LOVE this play! I caught the Crowded Fire production, and top to bottom it was FANTASTIC. It's funny and smart and cutting and contains three wonderful roles for actors to revel in. Goodwin is a master craftsman and playwright, I'd love to see this play and his other work become staples in theaters across the country.
