I fell in love with this play from moment one. And I continue to think about it, in terms of humor, heart, stage craft, and sheer smarts. Jami Brandli throws numerous balls in the air and catches them deftly, creating a whole wonderful world to remember.

It is the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's pleasure to recommend Jami Brandili and their play BLISS (or Emily Post is Dead) as a finalist for our 2015 National Playwrights Conference. The play rose through a competitive, anonymous, multileveled selection process that took nearly nine months to execute. As one of 59 finalists out of more than 1,300 submissions, it is the value of the page that has allowed this work to prosper in such a competitive selection process. Brandli creates a fresh new world for classic female characters, making their story resonate from the Greeks to the 1960s to today.

From the very beginning, BLISS (or Emily Post is Dead!) has me leaning in and excited for the story Jami has to tell. These women are so compelling and delicious to watch. What I most appreciate that is on full display here is Jami's talent to mine the common tragedy for humor. It's such a powerful take on the women experience and though it is set in the sixties, it is tragically relatable today.
