  • Jon Aylward: The Maltese Walter

Very fun piece. It's a hoot to see all of the noir tropes not just represented but also given a hearty comedic snap of the towel. Enjoyable, as well, how you poke fun at the absurdity of a superhero's origin story. Lot of fun to read, must be even more fun to stage. Nice work!

A huge treat for film noir fans (because who among us does not want the power to live in that world from time to time?). And what could be better than one femme fatale? How about two?!
Enjoyed The Theater Project's (Brunswick, ME) shadowy, flask-and-fedora's production.

  • Greg Burdick: The Maltese Walter

Packed with rich opportunities for lighting, sound, and costume designers, The Maltese Walter mercilessly (but lovingly) sends up noir in a modern context. Minigan delivers a funny, satisfying short, with an ending that couldn’t be more perfect.

Too much fun!! I love this short about a man whose superpower is he turns into a film noir character. All the little details are so hilarious and spot on, and the ending was one I didn’t see coming at all. What a clever, silly, delightful play.

Absolutory love this play! John Minigan's "The Maltese Walter" film noir parody is brilliant and incredibly fun -- both for audience and actors. This play will appeal to a variety of audiences and will be the favorite show in any ten minute festival.

Noir-Man can look into your soul. Noir-man knows the seedy underbelly of this city like the back of his hand. Noir-Man causes the lights to dim every time he cuts away to narrate the action. John Minigan's 10-minute play THE MALTESE WALTER is hilarious! With a delightful origin story and fantastic superpower, Walter's only problem is his girlfriend, who wants him to give up his alter ego. This play would be so fun to see and possibly even more fun to produce.

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

  • Morey Norkin: The Maltese Walter

Film noir is a genre that cries out for parody, and The Maltese Walter is easily one of the best! John Minigan’s concept of superhero Noir Man is brilliant. The laughs start early and keep coming right up to the very funny final line. Check out the long list of productions and awards! No surprise.

I give this delightful, funny, inventive play the highest praise I can think of: Damn, I wish I'd written it.

Minigan has come up with such an incredible idea, one I wish I had thought of myself, Noir Man! I love the way Walter can quickly turn into his alter-ego, even managing to change the atmosphere of the scene, this would be wonderful staged, in fact if filmed he could change the scene into black and white. I absolutely love this play! Be sure to read it!

Once you go noir, you never go back is right! A fabulous piece that's a lot of fun for all.
