What's not said says more than what is said in this brief but powerful piece. If you want a lesson in subtext, this is the play to read/see.

The language, the nuance of rodeo lore, and even the dialect pull you in. This short-play makes it's point clear but drives doubt at every turn. Well written, stylized and worth a read.

Mary Sue Price beautifully builds tension in "That Midnight Rodeo;" an audience will immediately feel something unspoken is hanging heavy in the air.

Along with the tension, Price shares Cindy's history and her and Bo's current situation are shared, all of which impacts a decision that Cindy needs to make. Strong writing from Price here.

  • Schaeffer Certenberg: That Midnight Rodeo

I thoroughly enjoyed this play. At first I was not really sure what was going on or what the conflict was but as the action ramped up I became intensely invested in the narrative. Price does a fantastic job of exploring the conflict many women have between achieving their goals and carrying out the responsibilities society foists upon them. Overall a great piece, I would definitely recommend.

  • S. A. Ellis: That Midnight Rodeo

The subtext of this play is so clear and dynamic throughout the entire script, the word abortion is never even used, but within the first few lines I knew exactly what it was about. Sure, this is a play about abortion, but for all women abortion is about a second chance, which is all that Cindy is asking for. A second chance to follow her dreams. I adore this play, and the exploration of autonomy in oneself and one's relationships that it offers. Wonderful work!

  • Adam Richter: That Midnight Rodeo

This play is filled with fine dramatic moments as it presents the complex issue of abortion — and specifically what it means to young couples just starting out — in a nuanced and compelling way. This would be a great addition to any short play festival.

Paints the central drama with a fine brush and a courageous hand. Offers up the issue of abortion in a civil tone, but still full of angst.

A very impactful story told, and all over a cup of coffee! I think it handles the debate of abortion in a civil way, where it doesn't paint any side as truly wrong or in a hateful way, which is respectable to see!

  • E. Q. Campbell: That Midnight Rodeo

Left me conflicted a million times over as a woman picks between her family and her dream.

This is a great ten minute play! I love the dynamic of the characters and the deeper subject matter is handled in a very refreshing manner. I've seen time and time again where this subject would be so loaded with overly dramatic stereotypical characters, but this playwright does the subject complete justice in ways I didn't know possible. Excellent job!
