I heard a reading of this play at the Mid-American Theatre Conference. Funny and sharp, this play subverts the expected to create a world that's funny, organic and humane. McBurnette-Andronicos explores a rich conversation, building trust and rapport through exciting reveals and widening possibilities.

People have already said so much about what this play says but I want to add that what I love most about it is what's unspoken, even down to the unsettling--yet darkly comic--end. Later, I'm going to have a pit in my stomach and realize it's because of this play.

  • Ricardo Soltero-Brown: Suicide Hotline

A dark comedy with engaging, detailed motions. The play starts off about suicide but finds itself focusing more on the breakdown of self-worth, the unexpected ways we detect it, check it, challenge it, discover it. There is a fighting spirit within us all that feels at odds with the workings of the world and the people in it. McBurnette lets a disturbing setup play out in an ultimately lively way.

  • Asher Wyndham: Suicide Hotline

A comedy on a taboo subject, suicide -- kind of dark funny like a Martin McDonaugh play without the violence -- but with an expected tenderness and an ending that breaks your heart. Highly recommend for comedy showcases. Another gem from McBurnette-Andronicos.

  • Emily Hageman: Suicide Hotline

Absolutely hilarious and somewhat dark, McBurnette-Andronicos paints a quick, fascinating character study in several large, but extremely detailed strokes. We know these people, we've seen these people, we've wondered about these people--and now all I can think about is what happens after the play. The questions are unanswered in this play, just like they are in life. I'm not sure what else to say about this play except that I consumed it quickly and was left somehow simultaneously satisfied and wanting more. It's haunting, it's funny, it's weird, and it works. Produce this now. Highly...

  • Robert Lynn: Suicide Hotline

We don't know why the caller is contemplating suicide. All we eventually know is that the man he mistaken calls is in a worse way than he is. Maybe these two can help each other work their way back. McBurnette-Andronicos's deft touch shows that there are no off-limits subjects for comedy. She makes the characters believable, and with that, she can take the play anywhere she wants to go.

This is a weird combination of dark comedy and a cute story. Very unexpected in a short 10-minute about a suicide hotline mix-up. Looking forward to reading more of McBurnette-Andronicos' work!
