Recommendations of Goddess Of The Hunt

  • Tom Rowan: Goddess Of The Hunt

GODDESS OF THE HUNT features sharp, witty dialogue and wickedly ingenious plot twists that take what first seems to be a breezy comedy of manners to darker and darker places. The characters are expertly drawn, and DeVita also provides entertainingly detailed local color and some barbed and poignant commentary on growing older in the gay community.

This play as a great vehicle for actors - especially those who have a sense of play and humor and enough gravitas to ballast the brash comedic twists and turns of the script. It flows, it plays, and it is a joy to work on. I can recommend - with full authority* - that Diana Black-White is indeed a great role for a woman. A complicated protagonist, she is purposeful, playful, poisonous. Diana won't let herself be played on the surface - the actor must dig in, be bold, and enjoy.

Another brilliantly crafted original comedy by DeVita, presented as part of the Fresh Fruit Festival at Wild Project. Crackling smart writing packed tightly into a raunchy theatrical jockstrap soaked in cocktails, deception, gluttony, perversion, and murder. Never one to take the path of least resistance and always one prepared to challenge his audiences, DeVita gifts us with fully developed, multifaceted, three-dimensional characters (including the minor ones) spilling over with heart and humor, and then strings it all together with a delightfully sweet love story. Exceptional work. Highly...

If you read only one gay-as-hell Sex-Murder-and-Social Media-themed farce this year, let it be Doug Devita's sharp and bonkers GODDESS OF THE HUNT. By what alchemy does one create this savagely cold-hearted a comedy, yet somehow make it also heartwarmingly sentimental? Only Doug knows, so you'll have to ask him. Outrageous, surreal, and ridiculous, but with a tender heart beating at its center, GODDESS is a sweet and salty treat. Order yourself a most fabulous cocktail, check it for arsenic, then dive right in.

I was fortunate enough to see this play performed at the Fresh Fruit Festival and experience DeVita's madcap piece on stage. What I always love about the writer's work is how much it rewards careful attention to the little details and witty asides. I frequently found myself laughing at a line and then laughing even louder as my brain caught up to DeVita-speed and uncovered the extra level of humor that was so carefully layered in. At the core of this noirish farce is a sweet tale of someone trying to salve their grief and discover what they truly value.

Mr. DeVita should demand a full refund from his therapist! Clearly, they did not do their job!

    Lucky us!

You can tell something is just a little bit off at the start. The unease steadily escalates as more is revealed (in ways made clear to the audience yet skillfully obfuscated from our protagonist Charlie) until this deliciously queer neo-noir launches itself over the top into the realm of the outrageous!

Operating at a breakneck pace with meaty roles from top to bottom, especially duplicitous, devious and deviant Diana!

Hunt down this GODDESS before she finds you!

Well I hope I am never a poor fox entrapped by the Goddess of the Hunt! This play has so many twist and turns, so much double crossing its hard to keep up. I particularly admired the use of information screens flagging up social media posts throughout. And I hope I don't find myself sharing a kir royale with Hemmingway anytime soon! Superb!

Dirtily Rotten ...Scoundrels! I'll never look at a Kir Royale the same way again ;) Loved the characters who "look like ED but aren't ED" sprinkled throughout, the pacing, the double entendres. Nice!

From the very beginning I latched onto the characters analysis of the world of social media. As the play continues you are rewarded by one after another of brilliantly constructed characters and their witty dialogue. The story proceeds along many interesting twists and turns that has you dying to know more by the end of each page. Its a fabulous rollercoaster story that I would love to see...and dream to be in!

Is it possible for a play to have too much to love? Because I love the dialogue which is quick-witted but still character driven. I love the story which is smart, smart, smart, but delivers on heart as well! Also, as a an actor, I wish I could get to say these words!! A great story, written well. Hope to see this up on its feet one day! (Or be involved!!)
