A taut two hander that will have audiences squirming uncomfortably on the edge of their seats. High school student Keith knows just how to play the power game, and Father Stanley, his victim on this particular Halloween, finds he is powerless to resist the manipulative teenager. But if you think you know where this is going, watch out for Cathro's stunning denouément. It will leave you literally gasping for breath!

A delightfully freaky short play with a fun, righteous twist that feels like something dreamed up on Tales From the Crypt!

I'm always curious when a play is heavily recommended on its first day posted, and DC Cathro's 'Goldfish' didn't disappoint. A self-destructive, sordid setup leads to a Twilight Zone-style denouement that is unexpected but deeply rewarding as the tables turn on a predator. Chilling work.

  • Ross Tedford Kendall: Goldfish

Short and genuinely scary, this is a fun little play in the vein of the pulp magazine tales. The level of tension created by just two actors and a goldfish is amazing to see. Well done!

Sometimes the most difficult thing to do in a horror story is believably keep a character in a situation when they (and we) know they can and should run. Father Stanley needs to run. Fortunately for us and unfortunately for him, precocious teenager Keith knows how to keep Stanley off-balance and on the hook (so to speak).

Cathro creates an unsettling conversation, luring us in with sublime power dynamics and rich characters. Meanwhile, you'll run through tropes in your head trying to guess what's really going on.

    Good luck with that.

Well, you think you know what’s going on here, but you’re very wrong. Immensely actable with multiple levels of tension that crackle and pop, this short piece delivers in unexpected and satisying ways.

Whoa. This short play will leave you uncomfortable, terrified, and perhaps even ashamed at your satisfaction in the end. A deep, dark alley of a tale that will have you squirming in your seat.
Masterfully executed in just 10 minutes, this play will stick with you for a long time.

  • Emily McClain: Goldfish

This is part-morality tale and part-contemporary twist on the revenge story. It is 100% entertainment, with a hugely satistfying payoff. The creep factor is HIGH but the character voices are distinct and would be a supreme treat for actors. This would be an awesome short film or digital theatre adaptation as well. GREAT WORK!
