A goofy but very clever pun-filled romp through a DMV branch in hell... which, turns out, isn't much different than a DMV branch anywhere else! I love seeing big, bad Lucifer being put in his place as he's forced to navigate bureaucracy, red tape, and archaic rules - it's very cathartic (though at moments, I was definitely on the Devil's side)! A wise and witty conceit executed efficiently for maximum laughs!

Too funny! It’s about time the devil paid a visit to the one place worse the than hell! Watching the evil one get his comeuppance is so much fun! Opportunities to exercise comedic chops await the actors lucky enough to sink their teeth into these roles. Well done!

Watching the powerful struggle in the world we normies exist on the regular is prolifically poetic and satisfying.

I adore this short! Nice to know even the devil gets frustrated at the DMV. What a perfect comment on how absolutely unnerving the bureaucracy can be. If Nora Louise Syran wrote a whole collection of shorts about the devil encountering mundane modern-day hells, I would read them all. Too delightful! (10/14/24)

The DMV has long had a reputation for being a circle of hell and Nora Louise Syran nails it. A clever send-up capturing the lunacy of bureaucracy that has us rooting for the Devil.

In “The Devil and the DMV,” Syran masterfully blends bureaucracy with infernal humor. Set in a DMV within an undefined circle of hell, the Devil grapples with mundane paperwork to renew his driver’s license. The witty exchanges between the imperious Devil and the unflappable DMV Officer create delightful comedic conflict. Syran’s clever exploration of absurdity and frustration resonates, making this play a devilishly entertaining experience.

The comparison between the DMV and damnation is a rich one, and Syran does a great job mining it for laughs in this fun piece. It's hard to make a reader feel sympathy for the devil (as it were) but this play pulls it off, as even the Prince of Darkness' cruelty pales before that of this bureaucratic nightmare.

The Devil's in the details, and Nora Louise Syran knows them all. This is an absolute hoot and a half, and Lucifer attempts what us mortals know is its own brand of Hell. From circular logic to the need for a driving test (He is over 75 after all), no area of this absurd premise is un-mined for comedic potential. I would love to see this play produced and I think an audience would have a field day with it.

A smart comedy about a deep, dark level of Hell that even the Lord of Darkness wants no part of: the DMV. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I'm renewing my license by mail!

A hell of a story! Nora Louise Syran's short play is hilarious and instantly relatable. Even the Lord of the Underworld himself is not immune to the bureaucratic hellscape that is the DMV. What a fresh hell this is.
