Recommendations of Our House to Yours

  • Rachel Feeny-Williams: Our House to Yours

I've recommended this play once before, as a reader but recently I had the great honour of producing it as an audio play for Theatrical Shenanigans. Its a wonderful piece that brought a smile to my face as I thought of this woman trying to create the perfect newsletter. The characters of Stella and Dan are so real and the quick witted back and forth won't fail to put a smile on your face. Its a Deb specialty, wonderfully presented and offers emotions in spades!

  • Enid Cokinos: Our House to Yours

Christmas letters. Love em’ or hate ‘em, they do serve a purpose. But what if this was going to be the last one you ever wrote? How much to include (or not) takes on a new level of importance. A humorous critique of Stella’s annual letter with a poignant twist and a reminder of what’s really important: “…gratitude for love, family, and every precious moment together…” A wonderful holiday play to see with family and friends.

  • Donald E. Baker: Our House to Yours

Dan attempts to tone down his wife Stella's hyperbole-filled draft of their annual holiday newsletter. He is only partly successful but as audience we're cheering him on. Then we discover why Stella is determined that this particular newsletter should be as perfectly perfect as possible. A delightful comedy about relationships that provides an unexpectedly poignant ending. Lovely.

  • Nora Louise Syran: Our House to Yours

A couple sits down to "proofread" the family Christmas newsletter only to end up refining their braggadocios list of this year's achievements by more than just 22 exclamation points. As always, Debra A. Cole keeps it real. A lovely short play for the holiday. "Hit me with your wisdom," dear Mrs. Cole.

  • Dana Hall: Our House to Yours

Debra Cole created such an authentic and honest relationship between Dan and Stella it's a pleasure to be a fly on the wall during the critique of Stella's not-so humble brags. A reminder that sometimes the truth is beautiful too. A twist that reminds us how precious every moment truly is and that our legacy lives on in those around us. So sweet.

  • John Mabey: Our House to Yours

There's so many heartfelt moments and surprising turns in OUR HOUSE TO YOURS by Debra A. Cole. Just when I thought I knew where this play was going, a dramatic and comedic shift explores a new dimension of this family and their relationship as a couple. There's an incredible amount of discovery in this play for actors and a director to mine every moment that carries into the next. The ending also makes me reevaluate what came before, providing so many opportunities for audience discussion afterward.

  • Molly Harrington Canu: Our House to Yours

Our House to Yours, I loved this piece. I can easily picture this as a conversation between my parents . The ever-present need to create a loving, happy, and worry free space for their family members. The twist at the end was unexpected, but also felt so very right. We all want so badly to protect our loved ones from sadness.

What a twist. I didn't see that one coming. In Our House to Yours, Dan edits Stella's annual Christmas letter, peeling away the brags to reveal the stresses and joys of being human. Playwright Debra A. Cole has crafted a short play with great relatability and pathos.

  • Adam Richter: Our House to Yours

You never know what REALLY goes on in the lives of people who write holiday newsletters. Debra Cole's fantastic short drama provides a peek into the agony of getting this peculiar tradition just right. She does so without resorting to easy parody. David Sedaris this ain't. The final reveal at the end is a gut punch that just makes the entire piece that much more poignant and memorable.

  • Ryan Kaminski: Our House to Yours

Our House to Yours examines a husband and wife critiquing a family Christmas letter. What begins as a humorous examination of how we tend to brag in our Christmas letters, takes a dramatic turn that is very believable and poignant. A great heartwarming play that is perfect for everyone. Excellent work!
