A fun, heartwarming play that is sure to get everyone in the holiday spirit! Perfect for Hanukkah and Christmas too! As always, Morey Norkin has written a script filled with a lot of funny one-liners and a great message that will have any audience smiling. Great work!

Lovely. Heartwarming. This two hander is a true gift. Thank you, Morey Norkin, for a wonderful short play that is full of emotional twists and turns. This play ends beautifully, with hope and good feelings.

Call me sentimental, but this Hanukkah play for two senior actors hit me with all the feels. I am happy that the sentimentality is balanced with a good dose of sarcastic wit, thanks to Morey Norkin’s wonderfully grumpy character named Irving (don’t call him Irv). A great addition to a holiday festival!

None of us should ever feel too old or forgotten to celebrate whatever holiday you want to celebrate. There are so many of us who become like Irv as we get older, not wanting to be around the lights or hear the sound of children laughing. But somehow someway every one of us should be able to find that magic once again and this small play has such big heart that any Grinch out there would suddenly find themselves smiling just a little bit bigger after reading it.

  • Paul Donnelly: On the Eighth Day of Hanukkah My True Love Gave to Me

This charming play and its endearing elder cast turns out to have real emotional heft. I have to say I joined Sheila in being a little misty-eyed. Light the last candle, indeed, the lasting oil was only the first Hanukkah miracle.

  • John Busser: On the Eighth Day of Hanukkah My True Love Gave to Me

This is sweet, incredibly funny (I thought this might have been a Hanukkah play set in the Catskills) and a testament to the writing of Morey Norkin. Irv is lost without his late wife and no amount of cajoling from friend Sheila seems to help. Then a light shines from an unexpected place to bring him out of his personal darkness. Like the best Christmas stories (with maybe some latkes thrown in, would that be too much to ask?), this play will get you right in the feels and make your holidays (or anytime you stage this) so much brighter.

Morey Norkin just gave me Hanukkah in July and it couldn’t be more lovely. Yes, I am sentimental and yes, I shed a tear. Norkin conjured up love and memory of sweet holidays past and those memories are always welcome - even in July.

This short play is so sweet. It's a perfect, feel-good story that would do well in any evening of shorts, though it would be particularly welcome in a night of holiday-themed plays, because it achieves the rare feat of being a holiday play that isn't really about the holiday so much as it's about love, loss, and new beginnings. A lovely piece!

A sweet story that proves that love will sometimes find it even when we think we're too far gone from it.
