This play is dynamic, funny, cringey. It feels so connected to what being young and queer and trying to do something different in NYC feels like, good and bad and dirty and sexy and concerning and fun and exciting.

Playwright Christian Flynn invites his audience to sit in at new york, where The Polycule is braced up to quantum mechanics. The Love Square created by his characters is done inadvertently on their part, with four left turns leaving everyone with their own angle on things, and by the time they notice where they stand it's no longer the same place by virtue of observation.

The discovery and adventure of the piece is shared with that of the abyss, as something is looking out, something is staring back in, and the play is richer for it.

I started laughing by the character descriptions. I know these people! There eventually comes a level of absurdity the further down you try to navigate the rabbit hole of Free Love; all the labels that distinguish sexuality. Monogamy has been around for at least 3000 years, so, whatever; but so has polyamory, so, what's the revolution exactly? Pandora DID open the box. But not all people are a problem, they're just different in their own beautiful, complex, curious, and problematic ways. Clever parallels are made between the sexual and political spectrums. The pursuit of joy and an authentic self is complicated, and this play explores the rich texture of those complications. The characters are not one-dimensional; indeed, their many dimensions would be too much for less assured hands, but Flynn shows an astonishing ability to let them fully explore their complexities while always controlling the overall narrative. They are not always their best selves, but they are always likable and relatable. One stand-out moment is a monologue by the character Heather that needs to show up in a best monologue anthology, and this play needs to be produced...
