Recommendations of How About Them Dodgers

  • Paul Donnelly: How About Them Dodgers

A painfully funny farce that hits close to the most unfunny bone. This witty and disturbing play takes the burgeoning movement toward censorship to a harrowingly logical conclusion. I couldn't help but laugh at the humorous setup and reveal, but then I couldn't help but shudder at how credible it all seemed.

Philip Middleton Williams has done excellent work with taking the current state of the Florida education system to its logical, maddening conclusion. A deliciously funny satire and a read quick enough to want to go back and read it a second time immediately (which I did!). I also have to agree Rhonda Santis, Governess of Florida, is an excellent name for a drag queen. Timely, clever, and frustrating—as all good satire should be!

  • Robert Weibezahl: How About Them Dodgers

Nothing is as it initially appears in this scathing and disturbing satire. Like all good satire, HOW ABOUT THEM DODGERS hones very, very close to the reality it skewers and will make any right-minded citizen (as opposed to Right-minded Fascist) squirm with discomfort between the laughs. Williams, acclaimed for his tender and insightful character-driven plays, dexterously stakes out new territory here. How soon can we schedule a reading on the steps of the Capitol in Tallahassee?

  • Jacquelyn Floyd-Priskorn: How About Them Dodgers

Even though this play made me smile, underneath I am seething. I want so badly for this to be full out farce. But there is a little undercurrent of truth that feels like it is all dragging us into a new reality. The characters are wonderful and the audience will love them. Do not ban this play! Produce it so that it can become the delightful farce we all NEED it to be!

  • Lee R. Lawing: How About Them Dodgers

A funny and oh frightening satire about what our future could be like if we just become passive about all the going-ons in each and every state where those in power are trying to erase those that are not by making them less than they are and stripping away each and every human who isn't towing the the hetero-cismale line of conformity.

  • Darrin Friedman: How About Them Dodgers

I would like to start by saying I have always enjoyed Philip's work. I feel like I say that all the time, but it's true. Regarding this play, I found it wonderful. Great on all fronts. It would have been funny if it weren't so horrifyingly accurate. It's quick, clever, and cuts right to the point. If you want an example of why Philip is so respected (and talented), then this play is evidence of why.

Satire stings when its humor also hits so close to home. Here’s to the rebels fighting the good fight and the underground movement that shines a light in dark times. Bravo Philip Middleton Williams, keep the satirical guns locked and loaded.

  • Rosemary Parrillo: How About Them Dodgers

The delicious reveals and twists in this taut satire encapsulate the cultural minefield that is DeSantified Florida these days. Just when you think it can't get any worse, it does. Nicely done and oh so frightening.

  • Daniel Emlyn-Jones: How About Them Dodgers

The forced resignation this year of Hope Carrasquilla, prinicpal of Tallahassee Classical School in Florida, for showing Michelangelo's masterpiece 'David' to students, sums up the contemptible epidemic of brute ignorance currently burgeoning in Florida and in the US. Longtime Florida playwright Philip Middleton Williams can always be relied upon not to pull his punches when dealing with such an excruciating and idiotic degree of vulgarity. This tight ten minute dystopian parody eviscerates the current situation with razor sharp precision. Rather like the British royal prerogative, theatre has...

  • Morey Norkin: How About Them Dodgers

A biting satire that shows just how far the far right could go. Philip Middleton Williams takes aim at the current Florida governor and the state’s un-democratic legislation and scores a bullseye! The clandestine meetings provide humor to an otherwise sadly prophetic tale. This is a great play for high schools across the state… make that country!
