We follow them through life, struggles, tragedy, and redemption as they move from past acquaintances to meaningful friends. There's truth to the dialogue in this show. Three Blind Mice is an honest play, a courageous play. Men talk with each other. I mean, really talk. About feelings, even. Friedman draws three distinct characters, each flawed but sympathetic. We’re rooting for each as we follow them from their serendipitous reunion at a funeral through significant life challenges, disclosures, and discoveries. Three Blind Mice takes us on an engaging journey.

This is a moving and honest portrait of three men connecting at midlife and working through the challenges their differing life experience pose to their deepening connection. They attempt to support one another, sometimes succeeding, sometimes failing as in real life, through major life crises. This is a sometimes raw, sometimes heartening, but always compelling narrative.

Powerful and Lifelike. Those are the two words that come to mind when I read THREE BLIND MICE by Darrin Friedman. I so appreciate Friedman's illustration of adult male friendship through the characters of William, Seth, and Javie—we're seeing three men brought together by grief and navigating the struggles of life, both day-to-day and big-picture, being vulnerable with each other and having deeply honest and sometimes uncomfortably direct conversations with each other. Highly recommended for any reader (or producer) wishing to see a counter-narrative to the idea that adult men can't make meaningful friendships.

Being roughly the same age as the characters in this play, this work hit me harder than I initially thought it would. The conversation in this play is incredibly real and relevant. Primary for me was the theme of how we define ourselves at certain points in our lives and what is ultimately to be the meaning of who we are and what we mean - to others, to ourselves. This play wrestles with that all while developing a friendship between three men that is truly affecting and engrossing, especially in examining how their backgrounds shape their lives and relationships.

This is an adult play in the best sense of that word. It's a pleasure watching three guys of very diverse backgrounds, who were only high school acquaintances, reconnect as mature men who face difficulties in their home and their work lives. As their friendships deepen, and they are willing to expose their own shortcomings, they support but also challenge each other and refuse to accept less than total honesty. Stories of straight male bonding are all too few. This is a good one, with realistic, emotional, complex characters. Excellent, engaging work.

Life can throw a lot at you. But if you’re at least lucky enough to have friends you can talk to and who will listen and share their own struggles, triumphs, and fears, you might find the strength to deal with it all in a positive way. In THREE BLIND MICE, Darrin Friedman presents such a friendship among three middle aged men. Their stories are authentic and raw. Sometimes insensitive comments sting deeply. Through it all, they, and we, are better off for taking this journey together. Beautiful work!

Three men reunite, establishing a genuine and transformative connection. The portrayal of cisgender men delving into intricate emotions and engaging in profound discussions about relationships is a breath of fresh air, rarely depicted like this on stage. This production delves into a multitude of real-life themes, fearlessly tackling the complexities of friendship and accountability without holding back. Each character is intricately crafted, making them richly developed and relatable. Darrin has a gift for developing supportive characters (not in the script) that make you feel like you know them too. Kudos Darrin for creating a play sure to spark post-performance discussions!

It can be hard to explain in words how friendships are formed, especially when it involves three middle-aged men of very different backgrounds and life experiences. But the men in Darrin Friedman's story find their way to this unspoken bond by sharing their strengths, weaknesses, hopes, fears, triumphs, and tragedies, in a way that makes us understand them even more. Seth, Javie, and William are people you know -- maybe you're even them -- and this taut and brutally honest story will leave you with a new perspective on friendship and how important it is to life.
