←Recommendations of Roots Deep, Trunk Wide (Bascom & Isaac #2)

I'm so impressed with the true and vulnerable interplay between these characters. Their relationship progresses in highly entertaining and consistently compelling fashion, bringing the audience along with them. Bonus points for the very specific pop culture references, which only enhance the connection between these two.

There is a vulnerability in the sexual act. In “Roots Deep, Trunk Wide (Bascom & Isacc #2”, we are exposed (pun intended) to the questions of adequacy or lack thereof. We can be most susceptible to criticism, judgment, but at the same time, we can experience a closeness, bonding. I think this play has a lot to offer. It’s definitely a strong play and worthy of being performed.

I hope a lot of young folks obsessed with sexual dichotomy, especially in queer relationships, stumble across this play and have their minds blown. There is something so universal about both humanity's need to fit everything into a neat taxonomy, and the experience of feeling less-than because you don't. This is a funny, relatable exploration of finding someone with complementary "otherness," with some deeply specific, lovable characters. It's boldly vulnerable, deeply romantic, and lots of fun!

01.04.25 - As I read this terrific play by Scott Sickles, I took solace in the fact that Issac's own self-conscious fears of acceptance and perfection, often getting in his own way, mirrors so many of our collective experiences. Bascom mercifully understands this though and his reactions to Issac's consternation is what endears them both to the audience. You're invested in their fates and that's just lovely. And I never would have thought that about Peter Ustinov. You learn something every day!

The very loveliest and best constructed romantic, sexy short I've read in ages. I was rooting for both Isaac and Bascom from the get-go, and my interest never flagged. Just beautiful.

The further adventures of Bascom and Isaac, this time in a wonderfully chaotic stream of thoughts spoken out loud, the quiet parts said out loud, the vulnerability laid bare in a way that takes your breath away and elevates the relationship to giddy heights. Not for nothing, but every time I encounter these adorable characters, I am caught up in their world and don't want to let go.

01/03/2026 - I attended a reading of this play through the Playwrights Thriving group. Our entire group was blown away from beginning to end. These characters feel so real and the dialogue is razor sharp and engaging. Would love to read more about these two and hear more of their interactions!

A phenomenal two-hander that mines so much emotional depth out of its ten minute runtime. I felt so seen by the incredible ADHD representation. Sometimes the intimacy we need is all in the communication - and I just love the way these two communicate. Bravo, Scott!

I absolutely love this play. Sickles lays bare the anxieties we all have in relationships in a meaningful and extraordinarily fun way. Exquisite.

Sickles presents us with two adorable love birds who--through an ADHD driven deep dive into himself and the other's obvious attraction to sexy intellectualism --get to the bottom (or not!) of their insecurities. Sweet.
