Recommendations of A COSPLAY MONOLOGUE

  • Philip Middleton Williams: VALERIE: A COSPLAY MONOLOGUE

Valerie is a force of nature in a cosplay world and in real life. This powerful monologue has all the elements that make the audience listen and cheer along with her as she takes on the culture, the prejudices, and the oppression in the world in and out of costume. An amazing piece and worthy of performance: it should be required.

  • Emma Carter: VALERIE: A COSPLAY MONOLOGUE

Watching an actress slay this monologue at The Midwest Dramatist Conference was an experience unlike any other, both empowering and heartbreaking. This is a piece for someone looking to sink her teeth into something raw and emotionally challenging. I would love to see this monologue performed all over, for all the cosplayer girls to hear.

  • Rachael Carnes: VALERIE: A COSPLAY MONOLOGUE

A tour-de-force confrontation of sexual assault and the culture that allows it to exist. Powerful, visceral and smart as hell, this play walks the jagged, uphill path towards self-acceptance and healing. Do our traumas destroy us, or do they become the armor we wear?

  • Joshua H. Cohen: VALERIE: A COSPLAY MONOLOGUE

A cri de coeur of well-earned righteous anger. A tour de force for a young actress, requiring a sustained emotional temperature that only builds.

  • Dave Osmundsen: VALERIE: A COSPLAY MONOLOGUE

A confessional, a rallying cry, and a powerful gut-punch of a play. Fascinating exploration of cosplay culture and its more disturbing elements.

  • Karen Fix Curry: VALERIE: A COSPLAY MONOLOGUE

Valerie is a superhero. She's calling out anyone who thinks of being anything but respectful of her as a person. What a no holes barred piece of female empowerment. An excellent, affirming monologue for a young woman.

  • Lee R. Lawing: VALERIE: A COSPLAY MONOLOGUE

Wow! What a monologue. Valerie is such a great character and would make a dream part for any actor. Her heartbreak and rage are just so perfectly capture and it just made me so sad that the world isn't a safe place for everyone. I'm so impressed with Wyndham's writing and his work. I am a fanboy that's in his corner for good. I was so privileged to have seen his work read live in Kansas and wish I had had that opportunity with this outstanding play. Recommend times fifty!

  • Emily Hageman: VALERIE: A COSPLAY MONOLOGUE

Valerie is a girl who just wants to have fun. Valerie is a girl who loves cosplay. Valerie is a girl who didn't know that she was going to have to be a hero, but she is one. She had her origin story and we don't ever see it. Valerie is broken and scared beneath all of her kicking and screaming and bravado, but she is fearless and she is loud regardless of her terror--and that is what makes her a true hero. Put Valerie on stage because you are SURROUNDED by Valeries, you just don't know it. Thanks, Wyndham.

I am in love with Valerie!! We need more of these types of badass ladies in all forms of media (especially at this particular moment in time) and I know I would LOVE to see this produced immediately. Viva La Valerie!

  • Amanda Ewing: VALERIE: A COSPLAY MONOLOGUE

"Valerie" - the play and character - challenges the culture of sexual assault in our society. Talking to peers at a comic con, Valerie is so done with this toxic male bullshit. The show is uncomfortable, bold, and funny. A quick ten minutes, "Valerie" is a call to action.
