Artistic Statement
My writing takes place at the intersection between nerd culture, fandom, and gender, with a lot of speculative elements thrown in (sci-fi, fantasy, horror). My work is unapologetically weird. I love exploring how the cultures surrounding video games, anime, strategy card games, LARP-ing, cosplay, etc. really bring out fascinating dynamics and tensions among different genders.
My plays also tend to have a strong LGBTQ+ focus and I love writing compelling female characters mid-30s+ so that more actors like myself can have access to some interesting roles! I live in Orlando, Florida now, but my roots are in the rural Midwest and I find myself drawn time and time again to that setting, particularly since my approach to gender takes an empathetic but critical look at conservative ideas of gender including Christian complementarianism and purity culture.
