Artistic Statement
My mission is to work in Midwest regional theatre. I want to translate my love for the Midwest into service for the communities that have been ignored, disparaged from the pursuit of intellectualism and inclusion. I want to see what happens if theatre is as welcoming and community-centric as farmer’s markets, parades, county fairs, book clubs, and church picnics. I am pursuing directing, writing, and artistic leadership on an institutional level for a more profound platform for equality. I plan to cultivate communities which constantly invest in the art which is put onstage, art that reflects the community's values while challenging assumptions and biases. I am drawn to authentic, intimate, and healing theatre. I make theatre for the people. I make democratic, bipartisan spaces which do not serve as echo-chambers, but as bridges to connect people to each other. I strive to dismantle systems of loneliness and provide pathways of recognition. I want what Zelda Fichlander started for all of us- great theatre in every city in America.
